Lunch @ Restoran Pusing Public. . Established since June 1986. Their claim to fame is fresh seafood (in particular, grilled prawns, steamed marble goby fish, and yong tau foo), served in large communal sharing portions. . Don't even think about dining here with less than 4 people. . The Stir-Fried Green Dragon Chives With Bean Sprouts (MYR RM20) here is among the best renditions I've eaten. . The green dragon chives / garlic chives, shredded carrrots, and stubby bean sprouts are so fresh, with a juicy crisp crunch to texture and lovely natural vegetal earthy sweet flavour. . Simply seasoned with a bit of salt and fried garlic, the freshness of the vegetables really shines here, almost feels like they farmed it from the mountain just before serving it. . The Stuffed Bean Curd With Sauce (MYR RM2.50 per piece) is made with fresh mountain spring water, silky smooth and wobbly soft in texture with mild grainy sweet flavour. Stuffed with home made fish paste, served in superior soy sauce gravy, lending a lovely salty savoury sweet earthy flavour. . The Steamed Soft Bean Curd With Minced Pork (MYR RM35) is equally good. An addictive gravy with minced pork is poured over, lending a depth of robust meaty salty savoury flavour with gloopy sticky texture. . The house signature dish, the Steamed Kampong Chicken With Goji Berries (MYR RM45 Half / RM85 Whole) features half a village farmed kampong chicken, with clean-tasting natural sweet savoury flavour and a bouncy springy light tender chew to texture. . It's served in a chicken gravy, which is thick and creamy with a sweet salty savoury flavour, really addictive. Enhanced with juicy goji berries / wolfberries and crisp spring onions, lending vegetal herbal earthy sweet notes. Loved every...
Read moreThe restaurant was already very crowded when I arrived at 7 pm on Tuesday night, which is surprising to me for a weekday, but that tells u how popular the restaurant is. When we reached, they wanted to ask my husband and me to come back the next day as they were overly packed and the kitchen could not handle it. We asked to make a booking for next day and then they said ok we find a table for u. So to me, they actually dun want to serve small group size, but anyway, I managed to get dinner. It's lively with people, and the service staff were attentive to keep topping up tea and checking on the customers. Food was served on a just right timing. The vegetables and Kam Heong prawns came with rice, then fish paste steamed doufu and lastly my sweet, sour spicy Crabs! Perfect sequence of how food should be served so that they can eat at the right temperature. For 2 pax, my bill was RM255. Dishes alone was RM235, and I wasn't sure how it was calculated as the bill was not detailed. All dishes were billed as one with no breakdown, then followed by tea and wet tissues. Honestly, I didn't like that because I couldn't verify how much each dish was, but they seemed all too busy and rushed to entertain further requests. Not trying to dispute prices but at least i know how much each dish costs. So that was 1 star down for me. There should be transparency in charging. Food wise is tasty. Ordered 2 crabs, and they say only have 300g to 500g. Small but meaty. Fishpaste steamed toufu, not tasty, in my opinion, so dun bother trying. If you do wish to visit, try to get a reservation if you have a...
Read moreThis restaurant was highly recommended to me. So I was looking forward to my meal here.
A few things first. Making a prior reservation is a must as the restaurant is almost always full with regulars and at times with wedding lunch/dinner. The only way to make a reservation is to call them. If like me you're not from Malaysia, the best way is to come here on your first day in Ipoh and make a reservation for the next available slot. I did, and I managed to secure a lunch slot for the following day.
We ordered three of their most popular dishes.
Steamed ginger chicken - This is my favourite. It comes in two sizes: half and full chicken. We ordered the former. The chicken is chopped to bite size. It is drenched in ginger sauce and the meat is juicy.
Fried prawn with supreme sauce - the smallest serving is 300gram and we received 4 prawns. Just enough for the two of us. The prawns were deep fried that I could eat the whole thing - including the prawn head with all the delicious juice in it!
French bean with minced pork and picked - You'll want some vegetables to go along with the dishes. The French bean is succulent and the pickles help to balance my palate from the other two dishes.
Service is efficient and what one can expect from a traditional Chinese restaurant. The servers are attentive to our needs, ever so often topping up our tea.
Our lunch costs us RM120. An extremely good deal. The restaurant accepts credit...
