🌳 Overview & History

Established in the 1950s and formerly known as Coronation Park, the park was renamed in honor of D. R. Seenivasagam, a prominent Ipoh lawyer and politician who served as MP from 1957 to 1969 .

It spans about 30 acres ( ≈ 12 hectares) and sits alongside the Kinta River in Ipoh’s New Town .

🍀 Green Features & Ecological Role

A prime example of urban green-space revitalization, it underwent rehabilitation and afforestation efforts from 2012–2021 to address flood risk, urban heat, noise, and promote biodiversity .

The park now includes an artificial lake with wooden bridges, nursery areas, cycling paths, playground zones, bamboo groves, and even greenhouse-based vegetable plots .

✨ Attractions & Facilities

Football fields: Two large open fields host training sessions and community matches .

Children’s playground & traffic-themed cycle track: Ideal for safe, fun kids’ rides. Bicycle rentals are available onsite .

Japanese Garden: A tranquil mini-garden inspired by Fukuoka, featuring carp ponds and a pavilion—though it has undergone various renovation phases .

Picnic shelters & scenic footbridges: Perfect spots for family gatherings and casual strolls, popular also for photography sessions and...

Taman D.R is a theme park once located in the city of Ipoh. In the late 80's my late father always took me there with my family.

The real picture of this park is still fresh in my memory every time I go there giving wonderful memories of my childhood. In the middle area of the park next to the cycling area used to be fenced, to enter the area we have to take a bridge because under it there is a railway track and in the area there are also various other toys such as spinning wheels, spinning horses and more.

This park is also a learning park for small children related to the law on the road because there is a special road for small children to ride a bicycle or pedal car and there are road signs that must be obeyed. Not far from the area there is a lake with a bridge built over it and people can feed the fish found in the lake.

Today everything is just memories and nostalgia because Taman D.R is seen as just a park used for leisure activities and football sports only. I hope the authorities will restore the glory of this park as it...

Another hidden gem of Ipoh city (sort of). most of the areas are plants and trees, some are well-maintained. I even found a skateboarding area surrounded by trees! and one of the main attraction in this park is another park inside the park itself (lol). "Taman Jepun" or Japanese themed Park, is a small park totally surrounded by wall and can be entered through main gate only. It's good for relaxing and photography. I only managed to spent about 1 hour and unfortunately I'm unable to explore all of the area. You can find food court on the other side of the area. and you can rent tandem bicycle. Now all being said, do I need to remind this is public recreational park. which comes with the downside of litters such as beer bottles and plastics. irresponsible people and couples are polluting this green place. Please, to anyone who visits here, do not litter.

Taman D.R. or fondly known as “D.R. Park” which was founded in the 1950s initially known as Coronation Park in commemoration of the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II which took place in 1953. It’s the largest park akin to London’s Hyde Park and a central location for recreational activities for Ipohites. However it wasn’t well maintained in the 90s until 2000s but was rejuvenated before it’s transformed greatly lately especially in 2023 where the National Landscape Day Celebration was held. The former glory of the park is once again given a new lease of freshened life. Let’s hope that the local council (Majlis Bandaraya Ipoh) continues to maintain and upkeep the park so it can maintain its glory from now & then. Thanks to the good job carried out by MBI & may this be a lasting effort.
