Worst 4* hotel I have ever stayed in. I had some wonderful accommodation in 14 days in Mexico (PDC's Hotel Casa Del Flores and Cozumel's Casa Del Solar Centro) but this was the worst and the most expensive...||||Started badly when I was bizzarely asked if I wanted to pay in pesos or dollars (I'd booked in dollars) and ended up paying 1,000 pesos more than I'd booked for - adding £10 (GBP) a night to my booking. Once I'd realised this I was allowed to re-pay in dollars but spent several days of anxiety (during a holiday) waiting for the initial payment to be cancelled. ||||This is a modern, designer hotel in a wonderful Cancun Centro location. Close to the buzzing Palapas Park, ADO station, buses for the hotels strip and lovely Avenida Nader bars and restaurant strip. The public facilities in this hotel are actually very good quality with a 'designer' flair - including extensive indoor and outdoor seating areas, the rooftop pool and bar and even lounges on each floor. However, the hotel has a bit of a split personality - it is a hotel or a nightclub? The rooftop bar and restaurant is a bit of a 'destination' for locals and guests alike (particularly at weekends) and the thump of the disco bass spreads right through the building until the early hours. I always carry ear plugs so I avoided being seriously disturbed by this but it was not what I expected. ||||I am a huge fan of polished concrete (walls, ceilings, floors) but due to cosmetic maintenance issues this gives an 'unfinished' vibe in the corridors leading to the rooms themselves. On arrival the rooms look good - bright and modern and with those polished concrete floors. In reality the rooms are poor - let down badly by maintenance issues and the nightclub noise:||||Wonky lights and wonky TV (although it was a smart LG and the You Tube access and decent wifi were bright points)||||Blinds blackout blind repaired with a bit off gaffer tape (!) with the steel guide coming away from the wall (all for the sake of an inspection and a couple of rawl plugs)||Windows looked double glazed but I could hear people talking outside and city noises (sirens etc) two floors below. Seals wear in the best hotels - the important thing is to ensure they are inspected.||||Shower. Bathrooms looked good but the rainfall shower was more of a drip-drip shower and was so bad it was actually funny. It also took about five minutes to get lukewarm so I was never able to have a proper hot shower nor a sinkful of hot water for a shave (ouch!). The hotel stresses water conservation but that's quite hard when you have to run the tap and shower water for five minutes to get warm water. Very, very, poor.||Faciities. Things like the iron and a hammock (which I was looking forward to as a novelty) were missing. The fridge was next to useless although bottled water was provided daily (a nice touch). The safe was good and even had a light. Odd things like the radio alarm going off and room phone with blinking green message light with no instructions on hand to adjust.||||I was also thoughtlessly given a room with one of those silly room connecting doors so I had very little privacy from my neighbours (who loved a bit of early evening Mexican karaoke).||||Breakfast - hilarious. Lovely, lovely staff and I get that Covid has meant the end to buffet breakfasts in many hotels but here it just seemed to be used as an opportunity to cut costs and reduce choices. What was provided...juice OR fruit, coffee, choice of omelette, couple of small pancakes and toast was tasty enough but it was all a bit 'grudging'. ||||Staff generally really friendly and helpful but I felt really sorry for them that they're working in a place that could genuinely be an excellent four star place with a small investment and a bit more maintenance. Never again for me...
Read moreFINALLY AN HOTEL THAT IS TAKING CARE AND UNDERSTAND WHAT IS COVID-19!!
I initially booked 3 nights at this hotel for vacation purposes. After being in the hotel for only a few hours, I noticed that the business adopted extra measures in order to fight against COVID-19 and I decided to extend my stay for the whole month. We can easily see that the owners understands what is that illness and that they train and support their employees well regarding this matter.
Additionally, we can also easily noticed that the employer is adhering to best diversity and inclusion pratices. Yesterday, for the first time in my life, my maid was a men (male). First impression = how a men can clean my appartment? But you know what, my room was super clean and he seems to have pleasure working here!
Everything in this hotel is built for a reason. There is a few improvements to be made, but this property is not comparable to any other hotels I visited during my exceptional Mexican trip :
I stayed at : Hilton Playa del Carmen - avoid at all costs, only if you want to party or want to go to JAIL Panama Jack Cancun - avoid at all costs, only if you want to party or want to go to JAIL Oceans Dreams - avoid at all costs, only if you want to party or want to go to JAIL Oceans Dreams. Very unique property, good location (Inmigracion), if you need time to heal your body this is the place to be!!! No pressure, staff is always helpful and smiling when leaving/arriving. We feel they care about you and your safety. I would definately recommend this hotel to my family and my friends and I will surely come back for a special event in the future.
The hotel also has great recommendations on the internet and a good reputation in the neighborhood after talking with locals and taxi drivers.
I have nothing negative to say about this property. Enjoy...
Read moreI stayed here a few days ago. At check-in we were informed that the wifi worked in the lobby and on the rooftop terrace only. We were also told that it is not sure whether this would be fixed during the weekend. In the end, we didn't have any wifi in the room throughout our stay.
The room itself was modern but not 100% clean. There were numerous long black hairs in the bathroom and the fridge still contained a used bottle from the previous guest (see photo).
The rooftop pool has a nice view but what really surprised us was the lack of service in the restaurant on that same floor. Understandably, you are not allowed to consume your own food/drinks which is why I felt like ordering at least a "cafe con leche" for reasonable 45 pesos. Despite speaking some basic Spanish, I even pointed at the corresponding item in the online menu to make clear what I wanted. The waitress suggested to me an alternative coffee drink which "I would really enjoy", but I declined and repeated my solo cafe con leche order. What happened after was one big disappointment: instead of preparing my order right away, the waitress and the rest of the team (6 staff members in total to serve 6 persons) walked around, chit chatting, playing cards and hanging around. After 50 minutes (!) during which there were no other orders from guests, my order finally arrived... a coffee cocktail with liquor on the rocks sin leche for 190 pesos lol. Insisting on receiving my actual order, the manager Sebastian showed up, seemingly annoyed and not willing to understand the situation. In the end, I received my actual order after one hour and was punished with evil looks from the staff. Prices are in fact quite reasonable but the service does not even deserve one star. Do you really think I would tip for that kind of service?
Nevertheless, I give this place two stars because reception desk staff was providing great service despite the...
