We had very high hopes for the Nizuc but were terribly disappointed and will not return. Our room was quite spectacular but it’s quite the schlep to get to the nearest pool or beach and those were overrun with children, so very very far to get to the adults only area. The service in the breakfast restaurant and the Italian was lovely, but we found it lacking—along with the food, which as others have noted, is really really expensive and mediocre. We both had great massages at the spa but at $400 each for 90 minutes we felt pretty ripped off as well. There are pockets of excellent service, William at breakfast, for example.
This is a luxury hotel that operates more like a high end Hilton. There is a dress code at the hotel, but it seems we were among the very few people adhering to it. We went one night to its adults only gourmet Mexican restaurant. Not only was the food not very good, but right next to us was a couple in t-shirts, shorts, flip flops and baseball cap despite the dress code calling for “elegant resort attire.” You can almost tell how well run a hotel is by how visible management is, and at Nizuc they are invisible. I can’t recall a luxury hotel we’ve stayed at recently where we didn’t at some point along the way meet the manager.
This is a very family friendly hotel. If you are a couple looking for a few quiet days at a nice resort, this is not your place.
A word about our room. We were in the master suite with its own pool. it was a very large room, very comfortable, well air conditioned and the pool was delicious! It made our stay tolerable. But not enough...
Read moreThe place is gorgeous and the staff is amazing. However, the massive flaw in this place is the actual layout of the resort. Unless your in one of the luxury villas or the very few rooms that are part of the main building, your room will be in one of the 4 towers. These towers are a fair bit removed from the main attractions like the pool and the beach and it’s not walkable. Instead you’re forced to be shuttled back and forth by golf-carts. Granted, they do everything they can to not keep you waiting for one, but you will inevitably spend a ton of time just in transit. And, it really sucks the fun out of the whole thing. Forgot your sunglasses in your room? Well, get ready for a 20 min round trip in a golf cart. This gets old really fast. Just that feeling of being so removed from your room means your leaving it In the am with bags full of everything you need for the day and the whole thing becomes a logistical operation with the kids. The room becomes a place to sleep pretty much. Apart from that, not a bad place to stay, but worth investigating if your in one of these towers (which you likely will be unless your some kind of...
Read moreI have been to many 5 star hotels. This one is a disappointment, unfortunately. The beach is rather small and poor compared to others in the Cancun beach area. I enjoyed very much JW Marriott for example. Maybe Nizuc has the concept of locking the guests to the resort. But they make it complicated for the guests to call a taxi. They don’t even have a waiting area for one taxi - so you always wait. I tried to reserve it in advance, but that doesn’t work - first come first serve. Therefore also, you can’t sit inside and wait. You must wait outside. Or follow the advice of the bellboy: get the card from the driver and call him directly to organise it yourself! I have never received such comment in a 5 star hotel. Food is ok, breakfast buffet is sufficient but if you like something warm, you have to wait in a line to be served - really, you do the waiter’s job. Why again the 15% tip? Just from bringing the coffee and the check? Rooms are nice and big, beds too soft for my taste. I will not recommend this hotel at all and I will never come back here, sorry to say. The details make the happiness. Nizuc fails me on...
