Sea & Stones — Restaurant in Cancún

What a stand out experience! We relied on reviews (& a bit of travel weariness) in choosing this restaurant, since we are staying at the Westin. It DID NOT disappoint. Our table was at the edge of the patio, not far from the surf. It’s hard to imagine a more lovely view. We arrived at 6pm and stayed through sunset. Insects were not a problem, but they have spray on hand if needed. We ordered the tuna steak with the passion fruit sauce (which was so delectable I’m getting it again tonight), a platter of mixed seafood, and grilled asparagus. We thoroughly enjoyed every bit. (except maybe the octopus, due to my personal inability to get past the way it looks) The Mexican Chardonnay was surprisingly good. Our waiter, Alan, a true professional was attentive to every detail without being overbearing. His open hearted way is a credit to the establishment. They heard we were celebrating my birthday, so 3 employees quietly approached our table, presented me with a Japanese cheese cake, my name and birthday wish written in chocolate and raspberry sauces. They say it is a fine dining restaurant, but I would not even define it as a restaurant. It is very much overrated, and the service is unacceptable, slow, and the waiters are very impolite. Starting from the manager and extending it to all the staff, the experience is just of the worst restaurant I have ever been. In particular, Francisco C is a server that will fight with clients that try to rectify his mistake and if doubting of his unequivocal bad service at the point of losing any form of respect for the customer. To do not talk about the food that is overpriced, of a very low quality and tasteless. I will undoubtedly never step in this horrible place anymore, even if unfortunately I am a guest of the Westin, which is the resort where this restaurant is located, and I won't recommend anyone to even try to be humiliated from these people and from their poor level of professionalism. Great views, attentive service & fresh seafood. One star is because I want to have one thing noticed by management: very rude and unprofessional hostess makes clients want to walk away. Lady is definitely in need of training over basic stuff — if there are 7 empty outdoor tables at 8:00pm and client requested an outdoor table, you might as well let hungry pregnant woman with child get a table, instead of suggesting to walk around for 20 minutes and if no one would show up she’d be in luck or otherwise get a seat inside. When I proposed to seat inside to wait for the table that wasn’t an acceptable option. I normally would take my money elsewhere.
