We have just returned from a dream vacation at Sun Palace. This was my wife and I’s first trip to Sun but we have visited many other Palaces, as my parents, Richard and Kathy Borlik are Diamond members. After the past 10 days, this resort definitely goes to the top of our list. I will do my best to explain the joys that are Sun and that if you are on the fence on which resort to visit, you should jump on this one. ||Since the minute we arrived at the palace, your stresses and worries are washed away by the ocean, pool, tasty beverages, and extremely friendly staff.|In our beautiful stay, we are mostly grateful for…||The staff:|-Our concierge, Giselle, went above and beyond, checking in with us everyday, organizing all our spa treatments, restaurant rezzies, trips, coffee delivery every morning (in time to watch the sunrise), and special occasion treats (we had 3 anniversaries!).|-Activities staff! Uriel was pretty much our personal trainer in the gym for the first couple of days. We did kettlebell and spin with him, and my entire family enjoyed stretches with him in the pool. My wife and cousins loved pool volleyball each day in the activities pool with Jonathan, Jesus, Alan|-Our pool concierge Dani and Ricky and other staff for keeping our water cold, our beverages colder, and our towels plentiful. And for allowing us to order our daily grilled shrimp! |-The coffee shop staff! Special shout out to Ariadna! We loved having conversations with her while she made our nutella cream cheese crepes. (Try it!) And for all the rest of the staff for supplying us with endless bags of chocolate nuts and for knowing to start making a coffee milkshake when they saw my dad approaching.|-The Bar staff! Thanks to Miguel for the delicious drinks and for teaching us about the different pyramids to travel to in Mexico. And for the most friendly Karina tending to us every evening for our pre-dinner happy hour.|-The shows were also great! Our favorite was David Magee, who was unbelievable. We were able to watch this show twice, and my wife was able to participate in one of them. It was awesome and even though she had a front row seat, we have no idea how he does it!|| The relaxing atmosphere:|-Vibes-I know most of this was created by the staff but the resort is also impeccably clean and beautiful and the ocean is the most beautiful blue. Our first swim in the ocean you can feel your worries from real life melt away. We are very grateful for the lifeguards who helped us collect shells and watched us when the waves began to get a bit treacherous. They always made us feel safe. We were also grateful for the resort’s attentiveness to monitoring and maintaining the sargassum. There was just no reason to worry at all at Sun Palace! |- Spa-gets a special shout-out because of all the time we spent there. We loved the hydrotherapy, and spa services. A special shout-out to the Kulkulcan massage that my wife had, who still dreams about it. |-Room 609- I literally think we had the best room. I will also dream about my quiet mornings reading on my beautiful balcony! I watched countless sunrises and even a moonrise from there! All amenities were also wonderful|-Our new friends- In addition to meeting so many wonderful staff, we met so many nice people that were also guests. It seems weird to mention them in a review, but also important, as I feel you’d want to know that only the kindest, coolest, fun people travel to this resort. |||The food and drinks:|Everything we ate was a delight, but my very favorite was:|-Aurora- this is apparently a new menu but is so tasty! I will dream about those tuna tostadas for many days. |-Thai- Beautiful views and delicious flavors! I loved the green curry and my wife loved the special Wagyu beefs. |-Breakfast at Aurora- To be honest my wife and I aren’t big breakfast people, but she really loved the yogurt bar and I really enjoyed an egg on tortilla with various salsas from the amazing salsa bar. We both loved the BACON! |-Brick oven Pizza by the pool was chef’s kiss! |-the Romantic dinner! Wow wow Wow! We had 3 couples participate in this, and we all can’t stop talking about the views and the lobster! And the beautiful music. It was a perfect night!||You know it is a good vacation when you start talking about when you will return again while you are there! We can’t...
Read moreThere are lots of pros and cons to this hotel. We had a pleasant stay; the highlights were the romantic dinner and the spa treatments. As we had paid for an upgrade to honeymoon suite, we got a lounger right in front of the sea each day which was gorgeous and very comfy.
The service here is really good and nearly all the staff are lovely. Gabriel on the front desk really stands out as excellent! There was only one young chap who was quite disinterested when we were trying to book activities. He looked like he couldn't wait to get away for the evening and when we asked him to repeat what he'd said, he kept speaking with his fingers in front of his mouth.
The rooms are OK - I am glad we upgraded to a honeymoon suite as the others had the jacuzzi right next to the bed. There were no options (at our affordability at least) for rooms without a jacuzzi, something I really didn't like, personal preference I guess. The floor needed more rugs, it was cold and hard and the room lacked warmth and colour. The vanity mirror in the bathroom was almost useless as it was half in shadow and didn't extend out far enough, meaning I had to lean across a massive drawer handle below the sink to see in it. My back isn't great so it put a strain on it, but I'm 5'6" and wonder how people shorter than me manage to use it. The bed was comfy, the air con very good until early hours of the morning when the room was too warm. There were no tea bags and just small cups with no spoons. I had to retain a spoon from some room service to use with my coffee.
Nearly all of the food was really good, in all the restaurants - tasty and lots of choice. Our favourite was Fuego for properly smoked delicious dishes in a great half-open-air setting, with lots of atmosphere. Our romantic meal was really lovely on the beach. The service was good although we had to ask for red wine for the steak course, no one thought to ask us. The spa is a real treat, so relaxing and it feels quite special with lots of gorgeous friendly people really looking after you. Entertainment - some was excellent, some just good. The fire show on the beach was particulatly great, really worth a watch. The all inclusive deal is brilliant in that you can have whatever you want or need, whenever you need it, including room service. We loved having a coffee shop in the middle of it all with delightful sweet treats. Unfortunately, the shrimp cocktail I was served on the beach on the last day was the thing that gave me food poisoning and I was very ill for the whole journey home. The main things which are going to put me off returning to this place are 1) the scent that's pumped around the hotel is really not pleasant. I love perfumes, scents, candles, etc etc and there's not much I don't like but whatever ingredients were in this scent just didn't agree with me at all and made me feel a bit nauseous. In other areas, the place just smells a bit damp. And 2) the hard sell on the Palace membership. It took up nearly half a day and we were pressured into agreeing, with poor sales tactics of confusing offers, incentives and various numbers, scribbles on notepads, calling the manager in to see what they could do, etc. Ultimately, if you can afford the higher rate, are able to use the offers, can refer other people for free weeks and don't mind restricting your holidays to a set list of places and hotels, then it'll probably work for you. We met other guests who said it worked for them but totally knew that it didn't for everyone. We have sent our cancellation request, as we are entitled to within 5 working days, and have had a reply so far asking why - clearly to try and change our minds. When we asked to speak to the person who sold us the deal so we could cancel (based at Le Blanc hotel, so a cab drive away) we were offered another meeting. As too much time had been taken up with this already, we said no. The representative, of course, was not able to speak to us and was no doubt hoping to pressure us into keeping...
Read moreI visited sun palace Cancun between 6-13th August with my husband for our wedding anniversary and was pleasantly surprised of the ambiance and reception of all of the staff.
The cleanliness of the hotel is one of the best I’ve seen in any hotel throughout all of the rooms and the building. The food was very delicious with great decor. I made a comment about varieties to choose from as they had a lot of seafood I was allergic too in the aurora restaurant but they catered for me very well and even opened up the room service menu with more choices for me to choose from!
The staff who we met such as Samantha and Chris at le Blanc branch for the presentation was very warm, informative and welcoming.
Israel, the chef, Marcus and the reception staff in aurora went above and beyond to meet our needs when ordering and giving advice on the best of what Mexico has to offer.
The staff in the Awe Spa are very friendly. Naomi is a very talented nail technician and gave me an unique French manicure which I adore!
I had julesa who did my pedicure to her best ability, Jessica and Karen who did the massages were very skilled in their craft, overall all the staff in the awe spa were very accommodating.
My most memorable evening was in the Thai restaurant where my husband and I celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary together. They made the night so romantic and special and the chef even gave us a special dish as a starter and a wonderful fireworks display on a volcanic shaped chocolate dessert- just AMAZING! later that night, our room was decorated with petals which definitely set a lovely mood to end.
We met the great Fabi in the hotel shop who brought life to any customer who entered there and made sure all the best promotions were offered in the store.
I accidentally left my purse in the aurora restaurant and lost and found kindly kept it for me when I enquired about it at guest services- the best service I’ve received from any lost and found department.
Our tour guide Alejandra( the one with the brown hair) made sure she gave great advice on the tours the hotel offered. We visited the pyramid Chichén Itzá and although our tour took a turn as we couldn’t visit a cenote in a particular area due to a convention being held on that day- we still had a great time doing the five senses tour where we got to taste and create our own Mexican meals.
The tour however, did last nearly 12 hours in total which was very long so I think if they had shorter tours of just the pyramid maybe and food it would have made it more pleasant. Unfortunately for us, a heavy downpour of rain occurred just as we visited the pyramid which was unexpected and a bit frightening for me as I am not used to that kind of weather but this was Mother Nature and nothing to do with the tour itself.
We both then went on another visit to Coco Bongo- the famous show and nightclub in Cancun- this was a truly wild and enjoyable experience of fun, dancing and a lot of drinking. We got to take picture with the mask character and other famous performers on the night. Cancun definitely know how to party into the night!
The beach is beautiful and clear with cute turtles that come out at night and the early morning. The staff take care of them well. I would advise the hotel to clear the seaweed like le Blanc does for a more clean effect.
Room service is a good feature as it around the clock and free which is a great feature of the hotel. One of the orders were wrong in terms of missing items however, we still ate the meal as it was very tasty. I would say though to make sure the telephone in the room is more clear as it had crackling sounds which made it very hard to hear the staff on the other end.
Overall, the stay was great and we would return for another trip. Thank...
