Hotel Maria Jose was a nice place to stay. We were greeted with friendly front desk staff, and encountered friendly staff during our complete stay. Most of the staff do not speak English, but all the front desk staff spoke English.||||Our accommodations were nice and clean, yet simple. Our room had a king size bed, two night stands a table and two chairs. The sink and mirror were separated from the shower and toilet. There was a small area with hangers for clothing, and we had an enclosed patio with no roof. The only thing we would have liked to have had, and what really reduced this from a 5 star to 4 star, was lack of a small refrigerator to keep beverages cool. ||||The pool area was nice, simple and clean. While we were in Merida, the temperature was 92-98 fahrenheit, so we enjoyed the comfort and coolness of the pool most of the afternoons.||||Our room overlooked Calle 64, which had moderately busy traffic during the day, but seemed to reduce to lesser traffic in the evening. If we kept the patio door closed, the noise wasn't too bad in the room.||||I would stay at this location again, and would recommend the location to others that are willing and able to walk reasonable distances. This location is about 5-6 blocks from the central park of Merida...
Read moreThis hotel did not match our expectations. The room was dark, unappealing, smelled of mold, the toilet stinked, the towels and sheets didn’t smelled clean. The room (#27) is located close to the swimming pool, so there is not privacy if you want to open the curtains to have some day light, people passing by the hall to the swimming pool will see you, so you have to keep them close, making the room dark. The toilets are old and the smell of the pipes was unbearable. We mentioned it to the reception, we think they added a substance which made the smell even worse. The shower took at least 10 minutes to get warm. Early in the morning the staff starts making noises around the pool and hall, so we were woken up by that around 6:00.
It is centrally located, and the breakfast was okay, although the service wasn’t. The waitress made in both morning the mistake of bringing us a different order.
We checked out one day earlier since we were not comfortable and happy with this hotel. For what we got, it...
Read moreWe just returned from an eight-day stay in Merida. There are many properties to choose from and we were not disappointed with our choice to stay at Hotel Maria Jose. It is within two blocks of the Santa Lucia Park/Square where you will find several excellent restaurants. Within a block of the hotel are bars and coffee houses. The main square of the city is a ten-minute walk.||||The hotel staff is supreme, taking every opportunity to make you feel welcome and are very helpful as a resource. The maintenance staff is constantly cleaning the white shiny floors throughout the hotel. The pool is inviting on a hot February day. Our hotel room was right off the pool. Air conditioning is remote controlled for your personal level. The beds are firm to be warned. The breakfast is included for some rates. Our rate was not included but we ate there for only 79 pesos for buffet.||||Please consider this hotel. You will not be...
