Great atmosphere; the place looks very nice. That's pretty much all the compliments I can give. I ordered the 3 musketeers dish and it was the worst thing I could have expected. Perhaps it is my fault for not truly imagining the description, but I also imagine that any item on the menu should be at least mediocre. I believe that whoever came up with this dish never actually tried it or was abusing a substance of sorts. The dish looked quite good; it was three different "crepes" (as they call it) divided upon a large plate by a banana cream thingy in between each. Each "crepe" was the exact same thing, just with a different sauce on top- i couldn't tell you what they were. Finally, the dish is topped off with half of a cold hard boiled egg right in the middle. This dish was not food, but a challenge of wit. The banana cream dividing the sauces was cold, so the cold cream (pudding?) was in contact with the warm sauce. Each crepe had the exact same meat inside, and a lot of it at that. I couldn't taste a substantial difference between any, cause there was hardly any difference. Never minding the cold with the hot, but what sense does it make to put BANANA PUDDING between the sauces? that is a dessert. you are eating dessert with meat and sauce and tortilla. At least the pudding tasted fine on its own. I got tired of the same meat on my plate after 5 minutes. I haven't tried what my parents ordered, but they simply said it was "average" and "didn't like it." I do expect that some other menu items are more tolerable or even good, but the 3 musketeers dish is the...
Read moreThis restaurant was recommended by a travel guide, and the reviews suggest it is the place to go. However, other locals suggested that it’s not all it’s hyped up to be.
We decided to give it a try anyway.
The location is nice, centered around a picturesque courtyard. When we visited for dinner, there was no live music.
The cocktail of choice was unavailable that day, so we opted for something else.
The soup de limon we had as a starter was delicious. But then again, it’s hard to get that wrong in Mexico!
For the mains, we picked a selection that included pork tacos, Mayan panuchos, a pork baguette, and a vegetarian taco. Unfortunately, only two of the options were edible.
Half of the dishes were cold. The Mayan panuchos and pork tacos were really not very nice at all, tasting off with a fishy smell. The rest was edible, but average at best.
Overall, this was the worst meal we had in a two-week travel period. I would suggest looking for better food options within Merida and taking the majority of the reviews with a pinch of salt. The cost was expensive compared to most establishments (500 pesos each). When the server inquired about the meal, given that a significant amount was left uneaten, we explained that it was cold and we didn’t like it. The response was...
Read moreWe had high hopes for this place but this is a very outdated and mediocre restaurant. The food is badly prepared and unimaginative. The service is scrappy and inaccurate. The prices are high for what is provided. The atmosphere is gloomy and the lighting makes the food look more unattractive than it already is. The glass topped tables make the place feel cheap and old fashioned. It made us feel sad - this was an evening that we weren't getting back. Specifically about the food...The guacamole was almost inedible - far too much lime, making it a watery acidic mess with sad lumps of tomato floating in it. The turkey vaporito was like a boiled flannel, but less tasty. The pollo pibil taco was flavourless mush. Everything was a bit grey and lifeless. The poc chuc was the best thing we were served - it was a solid 6/10. To give a little context I don't have an axe to grind, we paid our bill and didn't complain, but this just wasn't good enough. We are spending 3 months in Mexico and are looking forward to putting this...
