Fellooow humaaans!!!! Finally a 5 star review! Wooowooooo! Now this place deserves the rating, it is absolutely outstanding in every way! The food , the service the atmosphere the bathrooms🤣 like it’s all wondeful! Let’s start with the food! The food is hellah traditional Mayan Mexican deliciousness! If you hate spicy foods this place will resonate with you, most of their foods aren’t spicy, just full of flavor and many ingredients which combined to make a explosion in your palate. We got the mixed plate which came with 4 different types of traditional foods. It was basically like different kinds of moles along with a cheesy plantain dish that was awesome! Scoop all that good stuff with one of the house made tortillas & your ready for flavor town!😋 they also give complimentary refriedbeans with pepitas (crushed pumpkin seeds) which is a tastey gesture. I know what u thinking, “what’s a Chaya?” A Chaya is a cousin of the spinach family, a super healthy leafy green that can be made into anything from dishes to drinks, as you can see the dark green beverages we’re holding is the traditional “chaya water” which is super yummy & refreshing! I recommend it with one of their local made IPA beers called “ Patitos” (little ducks) Now there will more than likely be a line of you come for dinner as it gets packed due to its deliciousness, so be prepared to wait an hour, WELL WORTH DA WAIT!🤙🏼 In conclusion come here if you want super authentic delicious homemade meals with cool drinks , nice atmosphere & friendly staff. You’ll impress all, with the flavor & atmosphere ! The BEST authentic Mayan restaurant and Yucatecan food in Merida Yucatán Mexico! The handmade tortillas are the best in the city and are a wonderful cultural experience in the restaurant. You actually get to see and even experience making handmade tortillas! The restaurant is upscale and has a great feel of elegance! The whole experience is amazing and something that you will never forget! It’s also a casual restaurant and you feel at home in any attire. The food is authentic Yucatán and Mayan cuisine that’s the best I ever had in Mexico! The staff are unbelievable and the service is amazing! They’re attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable of everything on the menu. This is also a great place for a date, special occasions, and for family gatherings. It’s also perfect for enjoying an excellent meal alone in a great atmosphere. The food is very unique and I loved the sampler dinner dishes. The portions are HUGE and you get some much delicious meat. The conchita is so moist and delicious! It’s the best that I ever had and the tacos, tostadas, sandwich, and pachucas are overflowing with succulent meat! The meats are so moist, soft, and delicious that you can’t get enough. The experience of new flavors on your palette makes your mind swirl with sheer pleasure! The wine, drinks, and beer selection is great. But, the authentic flavored water drinks are the best thing that accompany the traditional Mayan and Yucatecan cuisine. Then the tortillas and the homemade salsa are PERFECT! Just the experience of seeing the tortillas handmade is amazing. But, eating them hot off the grill is something that you must experience! I love this place and recommend it as a must place to eat in Merida Yucatán Mexico!

This places lives up to all the great reviews. It was our first time , mid Jan ‘25. We wanted to try everything ! But went for the “classics”. First a bowl of chips n 3 dips arrived. Then panucho with cochnita pibil and sopa lima. We barely dug into those delicious dishes when the 3 meat platter arrived, accompanied by fresh tortillas, toppings and negro mole. Over the next hour this washed down with aqua de chaya con lime and a couple cervezas. There was just 2 of us. We certainly couldn’t and didn’t want to eat it all. So we have yummy leftovers while leaving the restaurant totally stuffed ! Pedro provided excellent service. When we ordered, we didn’t realise that ALL the food would arrive so quickly! Within 5-10 minutes, our table was crowded with plates. For other newbies, order your appys. eat those, then the entre separately. Otherwise it comes all at once. Everything tasted great.

Situated in the busy area of downtown Merida, La Chaya Maya is a popular spot for tourists and locals alike. Peaks around lunch time, so if you dont want to fall in line outside, which can get pretty long, either make a reservation or come before noon and/or take an umbrella with you😬. It can get very hot at 90ish degrees sometimes. We enjoyed the food we ordered, especially the Cochinita Pibil. Aaahhh juicy and tasty☺️. And try the Chaya drink. It’s a refreshing drink made of Chaya, a green leafy vegetable of the spinach family. I promise you it doesnt even taste like a vegetable, but it isnt cloyingly made sweet either. Service was relatively quick considering the place was almost packed. There is a woman by the window that makes fresh tortillas. So cool and very clever of the owner to have that - a visual display of respect for its heritage. Give the place a try😇

Good place to eat Mexican food in Merida at night. There’s interesting feature of this city that most of the restaurants close early and if you are trying to find something local after 9am you might get into predicament. This place has parking nearby which is also big advantage for them. As for food it is good and very local. The portions are huge and you can definitely try the most known yucatecan meals. We checked quesso relleno (cheese stuffed with ground beef, pepper and local spices in white rich sauce) and tikin xic (fish and seafood dish). We liked everything. The cocktails were good as well. The one thing I was missing is the atmosphere. The interior is very neutral, the restaurant is spacious but without any flavor that could be a cherry on top for their delicious food.

We came here attracted by the humongous number of positive reviews. Given that we expected the best. We were not disappointed. Although it is hard to understand what you are trying to order, using Google translate and the previous reviews' photos you can pinpoint your favourite food. Personally, if you are a meat lover, I would suggest the Lomito. There are two in the menus. Take both 🤣 There are also vegetarian dishes (i.e. los tres mosqueteros) but the amount of food you'll receive is too much for one hungry person. One note: when they say that something is spicy, IT IS SPICY. Do not thrust your ego. You'll get burnt. And it will hurt. For a while. Finally, the waiters are friendly and the prices are definitely high for Mexico but extremely low for tourists.
