I rated this place 4 stars by Texas, USA standards. By Mexico standards Camino Real Aeropuerto is far beyond what you will find outside the center of business. I stayed a week about an hour southeast of Mexico City for a CFM Aljaba youth conference were I stayed in both a hotel and home of an individual business owner then one night at Camino Real Aeropuerto. As the name states, the hotel is directly across the highway from the airport. The airport is massive. There is a new looking shuttle van to take you to the airport or you can walk across the sky bridge to the airport. The sky bridge will take you interjet and jet blue check in. I was going to American Airlines so that was a very long walk to the left. If you have mobility issues, or don't want a long walk - take the shuttle to your airline. As for the hotel interior, I was greeted by a Bus Boy who spoke broken but understandable English. Because Texas has its own version of TexMex, the English was not a problem. There is a tall set of stairs up - but there is a wheelchair accessible entrance. Inside is a huge open to the highest floors grand floor with reception, giftshop, and coffeeshop. Also there are several restaurants, a buffet restaurant, and entrances to other towers and conference rooms. I arrived quite early and was placed in a room for which I am quite thankful. The elevators were clean and in great condition. They moved fast. There are different levels of elegance. I chose a low end room which was similar to a Hampton Inn. Furnishings and bedding was modern. Carpeting was a bit dated. The two bed room was small but sufficient. The bathroom was long a d fullsized. If using a wheelchair, a handicapped accessible is recommended because of small floor space in the toilet shower area. The room has independent heating and aircondioning. I was able to use free wifi. I did not see an opening for LAN. Room service was excellent and ordering staff spoke English. Prices are in Mexican pesos. Ask about payment options when ordering your food. I could hear noise in the hallway but slept like a baby. The TV was large Plasma or LED TV. I am unsure if any channels were in English. The Breakfast buffet was excellent. All prices were more than prices charged in other parts of the city. Prices translated to prices found in the USA at perhaps an Embassy Suites. I deducted a star because the bathtub tile seemed worn, the mirror was not clean, the sink was not clean, and the ventilation vent was dirty. I would have made a purchase from the gift shop but the nice lady was working so hard to put on her makeup that I decided not to make a purchase. Unlike the USA, before security, the airport is set up like a shopping mall including pharmacies called farmacia , so you can buy whatever you need at the airport then return to the hotel. After breakfast at the buffet, my room key stopped working and had to be recoded. Reception Desk staff speak English. I had a lovely one night stay at Camino Real Aeropuerto. I hope you found this...
Read moreNote: I can't give full descriptions since I'm at trip advisor character limit.||1) I had two rooms setup, originally the first room was for 3 days, and then somebody else would be staying in a second room for one night. We decided to extend the second room for 1 more night upon checkin. It was at least $70-100 USD extra for this 1 night than the normal price, couldn't understand why.||2) As a result of adding this day, their system didn't properly connect things so the cleaning person told the second room they had to get out after the first day, and that the keycard would turn off at noon. I had already paid for the second night. I went down there and they said they fixed it. There was zero apology for the mixup in their communication. They gave me a new card for the second night as the old one would be deactivated. It didn't end there as when we returned later that night the new key card also did not work. Also, the room didn't get cleaned as the cleaning lady was told to stand down since it was getting deactivated. We had to go down and complain to get them to re-enable the card. Once again Zero apology. The reception staff was incredibly stoic and never once gave an apology, which will be an ongoing theme.||3) We tried to take some cereal boxes to go from breakfast and they got very rude saying we couldn't take them. They also refused to give us bowls or milk or spoons until someone I was with threw a fit.||4) I put a do not disturb sign on my door one of the days, and they completely ignored it and cleaned the room anyways.||5) The water in the shower would turn cold for minutes at a time.||6) The shower had black mold in it.||7) The hair dryer would constantly flicker on and off during use, either it was dying or electrical issues.||8) They refused to give extra water bottles. Each day they would provide two smaller than normal water bottles, and you can't drink the tap water in Mexico. WTF?||9) There is no ventilation in the bathroom, have to wipe mirror with towel.||10) Also had a hair in breakfast food one of the days. This was literally the only time a staff member apologized for something. However, they didn't offer anything other than "sorry, we'll make more without the hair this time"||11) There were what appeared to be blood stains on the sheets one day?||I dealt with probably 5-6 different receptionists and they were all rude and offered no apologies for any of the issues described. I have never witnessed so many...
Read moreTL;DR: noisy, smelly, unmaintained and way too over priced for what you get.
One star cause you can't rate with zero or less.
Terrible hotel, there is no way this is a 4 star hotel, maybe in a scale out of 10 and I'm risking of giving too high of a score even then.
Firstly, you just need to cross a bridge from terminal 1 to get here and the check in was fast and easy. They are ready to charge you a very high rate for a very outdated hotel.
Carpets in the corridors and the room were loose and smelly. Room is small. Painting in the room is obviously old and with stains from water and other things that I rather not know. The room I was in faces the airport making it extremely noisy. I've stayed in the Marriott next door in a similar room where the noise was negligible, so the window wasn't double/triple glass which is expected for a "4 stars" hotel.
The bathroom is a joke. Sink was rusty... Health hazard much? Electric plug was also loose, didn't even try connecting anything there. The shower was spreading water everywhere and with poor pressure, enough to take an ok shower, at least there was hot water, don't blame me for doubting it for a second. The door is made out of glass so good luck having some privacy if you are not there alone. Towels were scratchy so you can save the trip for an exfoliation at the spa.
The bed is ok. Bed sheets were a bit scratchy too, safe to assume the high amount you pay is not used on softener or even good soap.
But the worse of it all was the smell. Mexico City has a particular smell. Which you also have inside the room for a full experience. I don't know if the super noisy A/C doesn't work properly, the window is not properly installed or it just the deplorable state of that joke of a hotel.
Staff is ok. Problem is that whether you like it or not, you will hear all the noise at all hours from guests and employees. Laughs, chatter, luggage, steps, doors, vacuuming, it's almost like you never left the reception. At least you avoid the smoke from the people at the front door that don't care for masks, pregnant woman or kids.
Do yourself a favour and stay next door at the Marriott if you are willing to spend 50 more bucks or take a cab and go to another neighborhood, you will spend a similar amount but at least you'll have a properly maintained hotel.
0/5 would not recommend. I encourage people to actually write reviews cause I highly doubt the 5 stars that...
