How this hostel has so many great reviews is so concerning! We had to leave after our first night and find alternative accommodation (we were meant to stay 3 nights). The price to stay is extremely excessive for the accommodation and service offered. The property description of the room is inaccurate and misleading - the room did not have a hair dryer, no wardrobe, no safe deposit box and no inner courtyard view. The room was damp, hot (even though outside temp in Mexico is 16 - 20 Celsius), no air conditioning, no fan, bathroom didn’t even have an exhaust fan (there was so much steam which makes one wonder if they are just painting over the mould)(there is also no window in the bathroom so you can’t air it out), the curtain didn’t cover the window (so the light comes in from the street at night and early in the morning), the room is not sound proof from both the outside noise and the inside noise - you will hear every conversation from your neighbouring travellers and every conversation happening in the street. They give you ear plugs, but they don’t even block out the noise. We did not get any sleep all night - even for a hostel this is unacceptable. The bed is hard and the sheets and doona cover were not clean and there were holes in the sheets. The breakfast we had included in the price and it ran from 7-11; we arrived at 10 for breakfast but they ran out of bread (which ruled out any of the egg (protein) options) and ran out of muesli, thus all that was left was a bowl of yoghurt with some fruit and a scoop of peanut butter. There is no view from the rooftop bar. The rooftop bar is quite segregated so this makes it harder to mingle with other people. Stay somewhere else, this place will ruin your experience of Mexico City!

I honestly don’t know how this hostel has such good reviews. One of the worst I’ve stayed at (apart from the room which was nice once we got in). But for staff and atmosphere it was abysmal. We arrived late on a Saturday night to be told our booking for 3 people in a suite was only for 2 people - despite them advertising and confirming our booking for 3. Absolutely no solutions offered by the receptionist - who then rings her manager and we eventually get in our pre booked room, as advertised on their website for 3… but no towels or bedding for 3. We went over New Year’s Eve especially as thought it would be a great atmosphere, so wrong! The rooftop upstairs looks nice but is very sectioned so hard to meet people, there was no organised fun by the hostel (we asked on the day to be met with the most disgruntled “eh I don’t know maybe we will get a dj not sure” - by comparison a hostel very nearby put on a rooftop party. Same situation when we asked for any kind of recommendations from the receptionist, she didn’t know?! Also was so unbothered and unhelpful I have no idea why she would work in a hostel. The room itself was really nice although no privacy to the bathroom but didn’t matter to us. Oh and don’t fall for their “power hour” happy hour - you get unlimited juice, advertised as a margarita but is purple and tastes like squash - no idea how a Mexican place can describe as that! Asked for beer instead, said it wasn’t included. Oh and the welcome margarita is also a glass of apple juice. Terrible!! Location is fine but there’s definitely better hostel options around! Oh and if you go to the tapo bus station, don’t walk as it’s a verrrry dodgy area

The only helpful person here is the young lady who checked me in late on the 8th and one other gentlemen I will mention later. The beds in the dorm were nice except for the last night of our stay, our bathroom was out of service for 30 hours, we had to get up and walk up a flight of stairs to the 2nd floor because the elevator was also out of service for our entire stay. To get to breakfast you have 6 floors to climb from the first floor. Someone on our floor was also smoking cigarettes which permeated the entire hallway. I asked a young lady staff member, on the evening of the 11th to show me earrings in the gift shop that were too high on the wall to look at. She told me they don't have a ladder available and continued chit chatting with her boyfriend as if me asking about items in the gift shop were a huge inconvenience to her. There were no spoons or forks in the kitchen. As usual when staying in a hostel, bring ear plugs. After paying for the 1 item in the gift shop I could actually see, (a stick of insect repellent) I'm being asked after my stay to pay for it. Even though I presented my card and was told I'm good to go, I'm being asked for personal info over whatsapp after the payment. Here are the positives- There was a young man that helped me unlock my locker with a metal cutter and he was super sweet and helpful. I liked the large lockers and that's really the only positives I can think of.

Casa Pepe Boutique Hostel is undoubtedly one of the best-designed and most aesthetically pleasing hostels I’ve stayed at. It offers a fantastic location, great amenities, and engaging activities. However, the staff, particularly the front desk team and supervisor, marred my experience.||||From the moment I arrived, I was struck by the modern and stylish design of the hostel. The dorm rooms were comfortable and well-maintained and featured a charming Juliette balcony that added a touch of fresh air and natural light—perfect for unwinding after a day out. The dorm was street-facing; I advise earplugs if you have noise sensitivity. The property is well-located, and there are ample networking opportunities with a more professional, mature crowd of guests, making it a great place to meet new people. On top of that, the activities and amenities, such as the rooftop bar and mezcal tasting, were excellent.||||However, things quickly took a turn when it came to the staff. I arrived two hours early and asked if I could check-in, but the front desk staff was unwilling to accommodate me, citing that the room wasn’t ready. I could see that several staff members were around chatting, but none were focused on assisting me as a guest.||||I decided to wait and went up to the rooftop to grab a bite to eat. Unfortunately, the bartender was inattentive, and after waiting for a while, I napped at the table. This wasn’t a great first impression of the hospitality. Eventually, at 3 pm, I returned to check in, but the staff insisted the room wasn’t ready. At this point, I expressed frustration and requested a refund, prompting the front desk to call the supervisor.||||Instead of addressing my concerns, the supervisor and the front desk staff recorded an unrelated video about my experience in Mexico despite my simply asking to get checked in. They spent more time filming the video and rewarding a staff member with a complimentary drink and an upgraded room for participating, all while I was still waiting. It was baffling.||||I finally got to my room and noticed it had been ready. I had walked the halls earlier and saw that the cleaning staff had already completed cleaning other rooms, including mine. The front desk had lied about the room’s availability, which seemed to be a recurring theme at this hostel. I had encountered this dishonesty elsewhere in Mexico, where staff members often lied about room availability even when rooms were prepared.||||To make matters worse, the co-working space wasn’t as accessible as advertised. When I went downstairs early in the morning to work, I found the evening staff had occupied the space. The room, which had a TV, small table, and game area, also had a bed set up, which made it uncomfortable to use. Adding to the disappointment, the staff had a child with them. Initially, I was impressed that this property provided lodging for its staff, but I was dismayed because I felt like I was intruding on a paid amenity. When I asked for coffee, I was made to feel like I was bothersome, which only further showcased their lack of professionalism. Nonetheless, I got a lot of work done in the main office area. They have a great co-working space in terms of furniture but lack office essentials such as a printer and office supplies.||||Despite all these frustrating encounters with the staff, the hostel is a gem. The location, design, and amenities—particularly the rooftop, bar, and social areas—are fantastic. I thoroughly enjoyed the mezcal tasting, even though there was a language barrier with the bartender (which was awkward, as the guest had to translate). The rooftop evening staff was much more attentive than the day staff. They were younger and seemed to keep the vibes going. However, the front desk staff's lack of professionalism and customer service is a significant downside to an otherwise incredible property.||||Casa Pepe would be an excellent place to stay if the management could address these staff-related issues. The hostel has so much potential, but the front desk staff and supervisor need to step up their game and prioritize guest service to match the high standards the property sets. I hope future guests get the experience this place...

This hostel is in the heart of Mexico City. Everyday they have free walking tours (that were great) and also they have planned excursions for an additional price. There were a lot of solo travelers and the activities and daily "power hour" [5-6 pm $100 pesos (approx $5 USD) for unlimited margaritas/beer)] on the rooftop bar make it a great way to meet really awesome people. (People so dope we all got tattoos together!)||The sleeping pods/bunks were great. You get a private locker for your bag, and also a smaller locker in the pod for your smaller things. I would suggest bringing TWO LOCKS! (I think you can rent if you don't have). The rooms do not have AC, we kept the window open. The temperature was fine, but it was loud. I would suggest earplugs.||The "key" for your room is a bracelet with an electronic charm on it that opens the door which is fantastic for backpackers and travelers not having to worry about losing/carrying around a bulky key. ||Now, all of that being said. I found 2 bedbugs on my mattress. It was not an infestation (I picked up the mattress, checked the sheets etc. One was on the curtain and the other crawling across the sheets. It is not uncommon for a place to get bedbugs, and I was impressed with the way they handled it. They completely cleaned the dorm I was in that day, both with fumigation and changing all linens. They also closed off the common areas with fabric couches/chairs (I was on the same floor as reception) for the day). ||HOWEVER, they did not offer any type of refund or discount, which I did not agree with (I only had one more night so I chose to stay after they had cleaned and remediated). Additionally, they did not tell any of the other guests. I didn't agree with them not being transparent. I would think it would have been helpful to have other guests check their bunks etc, but they probably would have lost some business and it seems that was the reason they didn't.||All that being said, it was one of the nicer hostels (amenity, staff, furniture, etc) that I have stayed at. I booked in advance and it was approx $45 a night (which in comparison to other places around the same area, was middle of the road and for what it was, seemed affordable. ||Bring your own towel, bring your own locks, I would not pay for the breakfast, as there are many food options on the same street that are...

Solo travel can sometimes be a bit overwhelming but staying at Casa Pepe made it super easy and fun. Right away Loriana helped me check in and gave me useful tips about settling into CDMX like where change money, how to get around the city and recommendations for the neighborhood like where to buy jewelry for my mom. On night one I met the hostel-hype man, Camilo, at the daily power hour (50 pesos for unlimited beer or margaritas) on the rooftop. Camilo and Jair helped ensure good nights were had by hosting games and events like drinking Jenga, drag queen karaoke and bar crawls. These events were perfect for meeting other travelers. On the days when I was able to wake up by 10:30am I enjoyed the walking tours with Vijay and Jair, both locals from CDMX, they taught me so much about the history and architecture of the city. I felt very safe walking through the city and taking the metro with them. I planned on hostel hopping but I enjoyed the people and events at Casa Pepe so much I extended my stay 3 times (thanks Anny for the daily electrolytes and extensions). The hostel helps arrange day trips and tours too. I highly recommend the day trip boat party to Xochimilco - it included transportation to and from the hostel, booze and a mariachi band. The chilaquiles for breakfast (included) were a tasty start to every day. The burger from the restaurant on the rooftop for dinner is delicious and nice if you want a break from Mexican food, I had three over the span of my ten day stay. In this hostel I felt very safe as there is security onsite and a manned gate that closes at 11pm. I stayed in a private room which was cleaned and restocked with water and coffee daily. The volunteers and staff go above and beyond to ensure their guests have a positive experience. This is a hostel that I know I will stay at again and again. I can't recommend Casa Pepe enough. To Loriana, Camilo, Vijay, Jair, Anny and all the Casa Pepe staff thank you for such a wonderful time. I traveled to Mexico City alone and left with friends that I know I'll have for a lifetime. Thank...
