The hotel is very well located and certainly does have some amount of charm, especially with the vintage elevator.

Unfortunately, that’s where the positives ended.

Other reviews mentioned that it was loud, but I thought it was just regular street noise that would be the problem… not the case. The windows might as well have been fully open so little noise was blocked. The hotel is right off a main plaza, which is great for views and for access to restaurants and such, but it is super busy and very loud with music blasting, etc.

The lack of A/C wasn’t ideal, but wasn’t too much of a problem when we visited mid March. The hotel certainly wasn’t in the best condition as evidenced be the creaky floorboards and ripped linens.

The absolute reason we had to cut our stay short and find a different hotel was the water (or lack thereof). When we went to take a shower around midnight, the water first came out dark brown. We thought maybe the pipes had just been idle, so it just needed to run for a minute to clear out and we would use bottled water to brush teeth, etc. After a few minutes, the water to all the bathroom fixtures shut off completely, so no toilet, no sink, no shower. The water didn’t come back until around 6am, and it never cleared up. There was just no way we could ever clean clean in that shower, so for our own personal hygiene we had to leave.

The noise, the torn linens, the lack of A/C, the few tv channels, the fact that our information was sitting out on the counter where any passer by going to the restaurant could see it, we could have dealt with it all, but clean water is a bare minimum expectation. Best Western did refund our points that were allotted for the remainder of our stay.

If you are wanting to stay in the Historic Center, the Hilton Reforma just down the street is a much better option! For just $10 USD more, you get a hotel with much better amenities and amazing customer service. We were grateful for their service after our experience at the...

This is the ideal property to experience the flavour of old Mexico City. An historic property now celebrating its 80th year, its location cannot be beat for a first-time visit to this city being situated overlooking the Zocala (Civic Square) and a short walk from several of the key historical sites and museums (as well as a main Metro station to get to other neighbourhoods). The staff are friendly and always available when needed...a taste of the old character is an elevator operator! Meals can be taken on the open terrace of the roof top restaurant which itself is an attraction, though menu is limited to buffet offerings. The only reason not to stay here is the lack of air conditioning in rooms. This is not a problem through the winter and early spring/late fall but may be of concern in the heat of summer. The hallways and floors are finished in a distinctive Mexican tile and rooms feature hacienda-styled dark wood furniture that matches the hardwood floor. I was upgraded (as a BW Diamond elite) to a room on the top floor overlooking the Square...could not ask for a more perfect view with French terrace doors opening to let in a spring breeze. (However, suggest a room at least one floor lower than the 6th on the Square side of the building as I was awakened by the scraping of chairs being arranged on the restaurant terrace above me.) Also, for light sleepers, there can be activities in the Square throughout weekend evenings but that's all part of the charm of this part of the city and a reason for staying here! This is not a 5-star hotel in the sense of luxury but rates five stars from me for thoroughly reflecting the essence and charm of...

Ok a very nice hotel, get ready for a stay at a old hotel, internet not good, no AC, needed hand towels, no on site parking, BUT let's get to the good stuff a BEAUTIFUL hotel met by a doorman with COVID-19 protocols, easy check in, a ride in a old style elevator with its own operator, if you don't care about waking up early ask for a room overlooking the square, the military does a traditional flag raising at 8 am and the roll up at 6pm a site to see. Beds are super comfortable it took alitte time for hot water not alot of pressure but very nice, the restaurant was nice food is traditional and on top floor overlooking the square you can see the cathederal from right there to, if you need a taxi take the time to ask the front desk they will call a reliable driver to take you where you wish and will not end up on a round trip that you don't want, get the drivers number so you can call him back when your ready, beware of the parking structure right behind hotel, 45$ peso per hour no daily rate, Please go across the street its 130$ for first ten hours then 34 per hour, save you some money, for food the hotel is nice there is a circle K for quick needs, and your regular street food everywhere, tried the pizza down the street, uuugggg, tried the tacos next to hotel double uuuggg, ended up a block or two over and great bar and...

My family and I have been coming here my entire life, for almost 50 years. The staff was always very courteous and respectful. Unfortunately, that all ended today. I had friends in from the United States visiting Mexico City for their first time, and brought them here to impress them with the terrace restaurant. They had just arrived from the airport, and still had their backpacks with them. So I asked the gentleman at the front desk, SERGIO DOMINGUEZ, if he would mind holding their backpacks in the lobby while we ate lunch. He said "We are full. It is impossible". I explained to him that we were not looking for a room, but I wanted to buy my guests lunch in their restaurant. He could not have cared less. He was extremely rude, and disrespectful, like he did not want Americans in "his" hotel. I have never felt so disrespected in Mexico before, and now my friends will carry the same feeling with them forever. It is extremely unfortunate that after all these years of excellent service, they have resulted to hiring such arrogant and condecending staff. We will of course NEVER GO BACK, nor will anyone I ever talk too. What a shame.

I want to stay here again. Location is obvious. I had a good experience with food and service on the rooftop restaurant. A lot of folks would want a room to be like something of a HolidayInnExpress. What I appreciated was a room and bathroom that still had a ton of 1935 in it. I loved the tile work in the bathroom, and some of the fixtures were original, like where I live in the US. If you've lived in old, or very old houses, you'll understand. Like a time machine. Importantly, the bed was very good: firm but not hard. It was very quiet, as my room was on the inside. If I opened the window in the bathroom, I could here the kitchen staff singing, like a chorus. That blew me away. Check-in drove me nuts, as they struggle with their software and can only do one guest at a time. Maybe I need to learn to chill out. On the rooftop, they gave me a great table. The chicken mole, rice and veggies was good! The waiter was fantastic. We chatted quite a bit. He showed me something his sister had recorded in Taxco. Fantastic person and I tipped large. I'll be back, with my kid.
