Read wonderful reviews on this place and wanted to give a complete and honest review.
For over $200CAD a night we got what looked like a prison cell. The doors of the bathroom were so thin and flimsy you could almost see through them. The only window in the entire room was into the main lobby, and would feel very voyeuristic if open at any time, so we kept it closed. Hearing every single conversation happening on the other side of our walls became increasingly aggravating. The housekeeping services was directly next to our room and we could hear absolutely everything, as well as feel the shake from the washing machines for linens. It was SO loud. Beyond the housekeeping conversations, screaming children and incredibly loud people could be heard early in the morning and late into the evening. I didn’t take any pictures of the room, but should have.
The wifi doesn’t work in the rooms. At night people would gather in the lobby (right outside our room) to get any semblance of service or wifi.
The only saving grace was the nice lounge area during the day. Unless you don’t like bees. The bees in the area were so wild I had to eat breakfast in our room for a few of the days.
The beach isn’t swimmable and is so incredibly rocky that there is no hope to get deep enough to surpass them. So although the hotel is on the beach, you have to go a ways down on the public beach to find a place to swim
If you want to go for dinner, get ready for a massive expense, as the meals at the restaurant in the hotel are typically above 500MXN and a single entree can get up to 800MXN. If you decide to split an entree, it’s an additional 150MXN just to share.
The only saving grace of this entire hotel was the steaming hot showers (except our only exhaust from the steam was a brick opening directly into the housekeepers area).
The staff was very nice, I don't have anything bad to say about their service. The front desk staff, breakfast staff, and housekeepers...
Read moreWe stayed for 7 nights here. Hotel is very basic, but very clean and the place is well laid out. All the restaurants are just yards away, and the pool is small but only a few feet from the front desk.|There is also a little convenience store just a short way down the street so we had our breakfasts at La Cabana (2 can eat breakfast here for under 200 pesos), then we ate peanut butter and banana sandwiches for lunch and then tried different restaurants each night for dinner.|This was a very quiet relaxing stay. Out for breakfast, late mornings and early afternoons at the pool and then dinners by the ocean. Perfect for us, probably boring if you were younger and seeking a wild night life.|The Mecon staff were all very friendly and accommodating, and several spoke good English.|Only downside on service is that the WiFi does not work in the rooms. It works most of the time on your patio, and works best when you are sitting in the lounge area right at the front desk.|My wife had 3 excellent massages at Milena’s Spa which was onsite and literally outside our door. An hour at $40 US and top rate.|All in all, a great stay and, having now arrived in Sayulita, I would say I much prefer Punta Mita. |Only caution is be prepared to pay 600 pesos to leave town unless you are ready to try your hand at a much longer local bus trip or 2. The cabs are run like the mob. You cannot call anyone else, there is no competition at all and the price is 600 pesos, even for our little 20 minute trip up the road to our next hotel at Sayulita. The cab drivers won’t let other companies pick up, they have “spies” at the hotel and the bus stop to try and catch other cabbies, and there have apparently been physical run-ins between drivers as the monopoly has...
