Our review after a 4 day stay at Hotel Colibrí Beach. We wanted a hotel on the beach that was not all inclusive, had free parking, and so we booked here. Garden Room #27 for 11/23-11/27. Check In: It is in the heart of downtown, but we managed to make it ok in our rental car. They had secure parking so we felt good about leaving our rental car there. At reception, the younger man was very helpful, spoke extremely good English and told us how to get to a safe ATM. All the staff we encountered were pleasant and eager to help. Cleanliness/Comfort: The room was very clean (we did a quick bug check…one thing we had issues with in other places in Central America and it passed 100%!). Nice decor, bed and pillows comfy. Loved the balcony/hammock off our room. The garden is lovely especially at night, it looks like a fairy land! Food: Breakfast was great, good menu selection we always got free coffee, toast, fruit and an entree. Service was prompt, and all of it was delicious. Issues: Other reviews complain of the beach/noise, and this is something we can confirm. However these things are out of the hotels control, and didn’t ruin our stay. So thus didn’t bring any stars down in our opinion. -The beach was washing away/sand bags were in place. Only room for the restaurants tables on the beach. However we brought towels and were easily able to walk down to the main public beach about 5 min to the right and enjoy the swimming and sand! -There are 2 loud discos at the other end of the block. But pretty much all of downtown in this area has loud blaring discos on every block, so any hotel in this vicinity you will have this issue. Maybe the cheaper street view rooms might be worse for sound than our garden view was. But since we have a sleep track we play on our phone with that and running the fan we were able to sleep fine not disturbed by the sound. -The only complaint thing that was valid the hotel could do something about was the internet connection wasn’t always the best. It came and went. The Verdict: So overall in our mind the issues were minor, and we loved this place, would definitely return or recommend it to friends! Definitely deserves 5 stars!

We have been traveling through Mexico for four weeks, and this hotel was our biggest disappointment. Positive: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The design is absolutely stunning. The lush greenery gives the place a jungle-like feel in the middle of the city, creating a welcoming first impression. Negative: ❌ Unfriendly reception: The staff at the front desk were not very welcoming. It felt like they didn’t really care about making guests feel at home. ❌ Misleading beach information: We were excited to relax on the beach after diving—only to find out that the beach has not existed for two years! Yet, the hotel’s website still shows misleading photos. At reception, they told us the beach was “temporarily unavailable” due to erosion and tides. But how can they still call their restaurant a “Beach Club”? ❌ Rooms: While the rooms are stylish, clean, and designed with sustainability in mind, they are poorly ventilated. The first bungalow we were offered had no natural light and faced a wall just 30 cm away. ❌ Slow Wi-Fi: The internet is incredibly slow—even in more remote areas, we had better connections. Using mobile data (4G) was significantly faster. ❌ Breakfast: The breakfast was good, but we highly recommend visiting a local bakery in the nearby village instead—it offers much better quality. Conclusion: If you’re looking for a charming and reasonably priced hotel, you’re better off choosing one that’s not falsely advertised as being on the beach.

Our wedding weekend at Hotel Colibri was nothing short of magical. From the moment we arrived, we were blown away by the beauty of the hotel, the kindness of the staff, and the overall experience that made our special day even more unforgettable. Our suite was absolutely stunning—beautifully designed, spacious, and the perfect retreat after celebrating with our loved ones. Waking up to the sunrise, the sound of the ocean and the peaceful atmosphere made it feel like a dream. Every detail in the room was thoughtfully curated, making it feel luxurious yet incredibly comfortable. The staff at Hotel Colibri was beyond amazing. They were so kind, welcoming, and attentive, ensuring that everything was perfect throughout our stay. Not only was the service exceptional, but the entire property was immaculately clean, making us feel completely at ease and able to fully enjoy our time. From start to finish, our experience at Hotel Colibri was flawless. Whether you’re planning a wedding, a romantic getaway, or just looking for the perfect place to stay in Playa del Carmen, we highly recommend this incredible hotel. We are forever grateful for the role they played in making our wedding weekend truly unforgettable!

This suite was amazing! It was so spacious and beautifully decorated. We thoroughly enjoyed our honeymoon. Breathtaking view of the beach and ocean. So lovely to wake up to the sound of waves and nature. The projector and screen were awesome! We got to listen to Spotify while we got ready in the morning. We got to watch movies at night when we wanted to relax. The kitchen was perfect! We cooked a romantic dinner one night together. The private rooftop patio with hot tub was awesome! We didn’t use the hot tub but enjoyed hanging out up there. They provide you with drinking water whenever needed. They fill at large water receptacle above the sink with a spout which was so convenient and saved us some money. Just bring a reusable water bottle or keep your plastic bottles to refill. The bed was so comfy! The suite was spacious! Anything we needed assistance with was met with courtesy and a smile. We made sure to tip our housekeepers. We even booked in room massages which were incredible. The ONLY negative is they should tell you when you book the massages to have cash to tip the masseurs and to pay for the massages ahead of time. Right after the most relaxing and lovely massages, my husband had to go to the front desk to pay our masseurs. We couldn’t include tip in our payment and there isn’t an atm in the hotel. So my husband was stressing because he wanted to make sure our masseurs were properly paid and tipped. They were waiting for us to pay them and we felt awful! That sort of momentarily ruined our massages. We finally told them we’d go to the bank and leave them cash in an envelope later that day, which we did! We felt terrible for causing them to have to come back to fetch their money. But we left them a nice note thanking them with a good tip! :)

I want to give a shout-out to Alma at the front desk and Roberto at the restaurant/bar. Alma was so helpful, caring and kind! Any questions we had she answered. Anything we needed (one night we needed a wine opener and they were so helpful!) she assisted in any way she could! Roberto was our server one morning at the Lido Beach Club and he was amazing! We had breakfast included in our Airbnb booking and we took full advantage. The food was so delicious!!! Roberto took such great care of us that we will for sure remember our experience because of him. He deserves a raise, or hopefully a bonus for this good review. I’m going to make sure to write him a good review on their website too :) The drinks were tasty, he gave us excellent food & beverage recommendations, he was fun and engaging, and he worked very hard too. They were clearly busy but he was hustling and working hard which I totally respect.

All in all, a WONDERFUL experience that my new husband and I will remember forever. We called this trip our “first honeymoon”. We look forward to returning again in...

Hotel Colibri is a great escape from the whole madness of Playa Del Carmen 5th Avenue. It is its own space where you can easily disconnect from all that is going around. When you enter the hotel you will directly be experiencing the little jungle haven they’ve created. This was so important for us and helped us enjoy our stay! They also bring in some live bands and DJs which keeps things fun in the hotel if you don’t feel like going out.

Additionally, as a guest of the hotel you get an exclusive 10% discount on all drinks and food! This was so worth it because they definitely have savory food and delicious drinks! This is a great gesture from the hotel, and I wish more hotels did this, because this shows the appreciation of their customers.

We also had a great experience with the staff. For example, Carina helped us book a last minute experience and she consistently kept checking up with the tour operator and keeping us in the loop if it would work out or not. She also kept checking up if the tour operator did meet us and if we got to get on the experience given the last minute rush. She was very thoughtful and supportive through it all.

Additionally, we had one of the waiters (unfortunately can’t remember his name — brown hair with a well groomed beard) he helped us get a last minute lunch box since we had an early tour. We weren’t informed that we should let the reception know one day beforehand to prepare it, but he made an exception and had the kitchen make it for us so we don’t go without a breakfast.

We also need to call out Alma that made checking out very easy, and she also gave us written recommendations of activities to do for our next stay at Valladolid! We really appreciated it.

The only downside of the hotel is the noise. We were staying in the cottage houses and we were very impacted with the surrounding loud music and clubs. I truly wonder if the hotel can do anything more about it. This didn’t bother us much because we already got really tired and just enjoyed Netflix playing in the room to cover the sound of the clubs and falling asleep, but we can understand other light sleepers that might not enjoy this very much.

Overall, our stay at Colibri was amazing and we loved the supportive and welcoming staff. We had stayed two other places in Mexico before coming here to this hotel, and we haven’t seen the same kindness and help of the staff! Thank you for...
