I’ll begin with the good because no place is all bad. The rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated. The hotel is set in a nicely restored colonial house full of quirky architectural details and local charm. Staff members are for the most part polite and friendly. The location is within a few minutes walk of anything you might want to see/do in town. That’s about it.
Now, for the bad, picture this: you are planning a romantic visit to San Miguel de Allende, and after extensive research you select this property because of its great reviews. You book directly on their website over six months in advance, taking advantage of an early bird pre paid promotion. The room includes breakfast, so you contact them at the time of booking to confirm the possibility of vegan breakfast options. You remind them days before you arrive.
You arrive late in the evening after a long day of travel only to learn that the front desk has your booking starting the following day. You look at your email confirmation and you booked for the correct dates but despite booking direct, they have the details wrong. They thankfully have an available room but want to charge you 25% more now and insist you did not pre pay. But it’s 9pm and you’re exhausted so you agree and decide to handle it later. In your room, the shower takes 20 mins to heat up (and painful waste of resources) and later the hotel looses power, so you can’t charge your dying phone. Even after power returns, their “fast” internet doesn’t event let you check whattsApp.
The next morning you ask about vegan breakfast and the assure you they have it covered. It’s 8am (the time they say breakfast starts) but the chef hasn’t arrived, so after waiting 30 mins and only getting tea, you finally ask what’s going on and decide to go take a walk for an hour while hopefully the chef shows up. Eventually you have breakfast but what you get are 2 breaded but still raw (and flavorless) portobello mushrooms on a very greasy mole sauce. Offensive given how tasty and easily vegan local food can be.
It takes management a day and a half to figure out your booking issue and all they can do for you is charge you the price you booked for originally, but the unpleasantness of your situation upon arrival is not even acknowledged. When you leave, you couldn’t be happier to never return. Worst $500 you have ever...
Read moreSpent five nights in this gem, Room #9. The hotel itself is everything it should be in a picturesque setting that it is in. The view from the rooftop terraces are all amazing! Not only can you dine up there. But you can just sit and relax and take in the views. The room was and has everything you could really ask for. The property itself is incredibly beautiful and very well kept. The manager and front desk agents are so amazing and helpful! They give you recommendations of what to see and where to go, on top of that, they can get safe and reliable transportation arranged. The restaurant (Bistro Mexique) in the hotel has fantastic food available for breakfast and especially dinner. I asked for a special birthday dinner, Chef's choice of four courses. They delivered, and I've had this no better multiple course meal Anywhere! Chef Viridiana and Mixologist Abraham produced THE MOST outstanding food and drinks I have ever had... Ever. The Chef's Mole was stunningly incredible, dare I say better than my family's own prized Mole. But quite honestly, everything that came out of the kitchen was simply nothing less then perfection. Mixologist Abraham made several fantastic natural waters / lemonades. His attention to detail and service during dinner were amazing day in and day out. As a collective group, they made our experience the best we have ever had anywhere. They made my birthday trip very special! We will be going back to stay again, and the longer next time. Front desk agent Miguel tried to convince me to stay the extra days instead of moving onto a different city, I now regret not doing so. 5 star service through and through. Incredibly special...
Read moreMy husband and I stayed for the Valentines weekend (3 nights). Alejandra confirmed our stay a week ahead of time over WhatsApp. Which I was grateful because we booked the incorrect dates and were able to correct them before having a messy arrival. We arrived on Thursday mid-day before check-in Diana and Alejandra were very nice and offered to keep our bags safe and would set them up in our room once it was ready. The hotel is Gorgeous and we loved the old historic building, the roof top view is amazing at night. This was our first time visiting San Miguel de Allende. We had the Jr. Suite it had a large king size bed that was very comfy and pillows were great (I always struggle with the pillows in hotels). The water did take a bit to get hot but once it was hot it was hot. We had breakfast 2 days (traditional Mexican breakfast the Maracuja jam was amazing) it was enjoyable. We had drinks at night. There was a blackout one night but it was great, we sat in the patio with small table lamp lighting, had drinks and live music under the stars (electric was out about 1 hour) turned out to be romantic night. Diana gave us the best tips for day outings. We loved that we could walk all around the downtown area. Alejandra arranged for our transportation on our check out day. All in all the the staff is amazing and very attentive with guest. We will be...
