The building is impressive, but the common areas and the lobby would put off most at first glance. It certainly does not look like a 4 star property and in fairness, it isn't. Regardless, the rooms here are comfortable, clean, spacious and the staff friendly. For the rates, it's a perfectly good experience.||||Not in the heart of Asilah, but close enough to be short walking distance to the medina and everything the town has to offer. You can also walk from the railway station if that's how you arrive, but it's a very long walk. At least 25-30 minutes, albeit along an easy route. The slight distance from the medina makes it a quiet option and some rooms have views of the ocean and the marina.||||The corridors are pretty gross, with nasty, old, dirty carpets, but once you get to the rooms, you'll be surprised. Laminate floors, clean walls, comfortable seating, bright furnishings; it all makes for a cheerful experience. The beds are comfy and there's good aircon/heating. Balconies overlook the ocean and there's outside seating, but the sliding doors aren't a completely tight fit. They need to fix this as not only does it let in cold or hot air (depending on the time of year) but mosquitoes and flies also find their way in easily. You'll need mosquito spray as a result. ||||The WIFI is dreadful. That's the biggest problem for the property other than the grotty common areas. It does work, when only when it feels like it. Most of the time, there's no signal at all. It comes and goes. Mainly goes. It does work better in the lobby.||||The bathrooms are very large, with a shower/tub. The hot water is a bit hit and miss, but the water pressure is good. One day the hot water was plentiful, the next the shower was stone cold. Soap and shampoo are provided, but there's no hair dryer. The towels are clean and relatively new.||||Breakfast is included and there's a LOT of options. Most of it is sweet, but there's also fresh fruit. It's also served to 11:00am, which is very helpful. The restaurant is a bit grubby, but it's OK on the whole.||||Definitely not a four star property by any measure. There's no drinking water in the rooms, no kettle, no tea/coffee, no safe, no real amenities. But the rates are 3 star, thus you're really paying for what you're getting. They will try the "your credit card isn't accepted" trick when you check out and they only want cash. Ignore it and insist and they'll miraculously find a way to make the card work. Not an unusual occurrence in this part of the world. Regardless, the staff are friendly and...
Read moreI stayed at Hotel Zelis during the weekend of Eid, and it wasn’t my first time there. Overall, the experience was acceptable. The location is undeniably strategic, and most of the team members I interacted with were courteous and professional.
That said, I would like to share a constructive comment, particularly for the hotel’s management. As a General Manager of another hotel here in Morocco, I intentionally chose not to book through online platforms like Booking.com—despite being a Genius Level 3 member—because I believe in supporting hotels directly and helping them avoid the commission fees.
Unfortunately, I felt that this approach was not appreciated. Rather than receiving a welcoming gesture or a well-located room, I was given a clearly less desirable one, while the better rooms on the upper floors were reserved for guests who booked through Booking. This felt like a missed opportunity for the hotel to recognize and reward loyalty and professionalism.
If I were managing this property, I would ensure all guests are treated fairly, regardless of their booking channel. Transparency and consistency are key to building long-term guest...
Read moreI arrived at the Zelis hotel and was pleasantly surprised! The rooms are nice and nicely decorated, with a comfortable bed, a big bathroom, fridge, tv and balcony with a nice sea view! It was definitely one of the better "cheap" hotels I visited during my stay in Morocco. A room with sea view is really recommended, the sunset is beautiful. I really liked the location of the hotel. It's calm, but on walking distance from the medina, the beach and the city centre. It's a 5 minute walk along the coast. Several restaurants are on walking distance as well. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and spoke very good English (which is not always the case). There is free wifi and the breakfast is simple, but good. In short, I had a very nice stay, nothing to complain about! Good value...
