Hotel Schweizerhaus Swakopmund — Hotel in Erongo Region

The Hotel Schweizerhaus is an older hotel in the heart of historic Swakopmund, within a few blocks of a very nice beach, yet right downtown. This review is based on a three night stay in May of 2025.

I was extremely impressed with this hotel. The staff were kind, professional, and helpful. The hotel itself is almost "vintage," in that it is older but in very good shape. I had a large family room with a sea view and a balcony. It was really quite large.

The hotel's location really can't be beat. It is a few minutes walk from most of the good restaurants in town, from grocery stores, bars, and tourist shops.

The hotel hosts a charming cafe/patisserie that is very much a center of social life in Swakopmund. It has indoor and outdoor seating and was full much of the time I was there. Breakfast at the hotel is very good, and people come from outside the hotel to have breakfast there.

This is not a negative comment, but it is something worth mentioning, perhaps. Getting to the room I had involved a lot of stairs and hallways. That was fine for me, but might not be for everyone.

We stood for 3 nights in Schweizerhaus in Swakopmund. The location is great: very close to the sea but also to the town centre. Rooms are big (ancient house), all with a balcony (as far as we experienced). Staff is very freindly and helped us a lot in suggesting and organising some tours. The breakfast is to be taken in the Café Anton which can be reached directly from the hotel. There, my wife experienced one of the best Apfelstrudel of her life. And being Austrian, this is a statement! Only inconvenience was that the hotel has no heating system, which makes usage of the bathroom in the morning a chilly experience. Additional blankets for the beds compensate it for the night. Definitely to be recommended, if you do not belong to the freezing part...

Es un lugar amplio y con todos los servicios, excepto internet en la habitación, funciona pero con muy poca calidad, prácticamente es como no tener conexión, eso es lo que marcó más mi experiencia con el lugar, además de tener un horario muy limitado para recibir atención en la recepción, los días que acudimos solo atendían de 8am a 6pm, lo cual fue incómodo cuando tuve alguna solicitud previo a dormir. La habitación era enorme y muy bonita con una gran vista al atardecer, balcón y un baño muy completo y equipado, pero los muebles y alfombras tiene un mal olor permanente, incluso en los pasillos del hotel. Fue muy complicado lograr hacer que el refrigerador funcionara, tuve que sacarlo por completo del lugar en el que estaba para encontrar que la clavija estaba desconectada, encontrar el botón para habilitar la clavija y volver a meter el refrigerador en su sitio, pero además tenía que configurarlo por dentro para ponerlo en modo de enfriamiento, porque estaba girada la perilla a modo de “no enfriar”. Los jabones y shampoo que dejaron para nuestro uso eran insuficientes, una pieza de cada cosa para el uso de dos personas por dos noches. Muy extraño. También fue raro que solo nos dejaron una toalla. Cuando lo notamos tuvimos que acudir a abrir otros cuartos que estuvieras desocupados para sacar las toallas de esas habitaciones, de otra forma hubiéramos tenido que compartir una sola toalla. Las frazadas adicionales también debían pedirse en la recepción, todo esto era incómodo. Lamentablemente algunos contactos y lámparas del cuarto no sirven. La comida en el desayuno que está incluido con la reserva fue muy buena, todo delicioso y de calidad, aunque el servicio no era del todo amable ahí.
