This was my first time doing a homestay in Nepal, and I count myself very lucky for having made this choice. My stay with the Shakya family made all the difference in my experience of this city. They are a kind and caring family that do everything they can to facilitate your stay with them and your experience of their city. For example, I have some unusual dietary restrictions and was concerned about having them accommodated, but they have had absolutely no problem observing those restrictions (their cooking is fantastic, by the way!). Furthermore, they took account of my interests in Buddhist art and history and connected me to members of the community who could speak to those interests -- needless to say, I learned a lot! Read moreSpent a wonderful two night stay at Patan Community Homestay. As I found at my previous homestay, the hosts were incredibly welcoming and made my stay absolutely perfect. The traditional food was delicious and although my skills need some work, I absolutely loved the Mo Mo cooking and the Paubha painting classes. Highly recommend doing both if you have the time. The kids of the hosts speak fantastic English also, which makes communication a breeze.
