A significant Birthday for my Wife this year so it had to be 2 of our favourites for the event,Scheveningen & The Strand Hotel.|| For anybody who hasn't visited The Netherlands before a word of advice,in our experience a lot of the smaller hotels do not have a lift, indeed some of the staircases we have encountered have been steep & narrow, not fun with a large suitcase,or if,like myself you have knee trouble!|| We knew the Strand to be different however,we had been there before & knew that the stairs up to the rooms are relatively wide & not too steep.|| We were to have a surprise however, firstly I didn't book this trip until quite late & was surprised to be offered a sea view room which we love,we have stayed in them at the Strand a couple of times before, love the view, the balcony, not so enamoured with the tiny shower room but it is such a great place we can forgive that.|| Friendly & efficient check in as usual we headed upstairs,we had been given room 15,well my heart sank somewhat when I opened the door as there before me was a narrow, steepish staircase, getting myself & the luggage to the top of them was really worth it though, this is a new room,no balcony but a fabulous view, big windows, loads of storage space & a beautiful large bathroom!|| Breakfast is included in the price & is well stocked & an excellent start to the day,the staff are all wonderful & much to our surprise presented us with a bottle of Presecco(bet I've spelt that wrong!) at breakfast on the last morning.|| Overall not like staying in a hotel, more like being in someone's home,we look forward to the next time & hope my knees will allow me to enjoy room 15 for many...

Read moreWe spend a couple of days here on a short family break and had very mixed feelings about this hotel. Honestly it was a bit a struggle to write a fair review, and I think it’s because we expected a bit more for the price we paid (220 euro per night).
We booked the family room for 3 persons, which has its own entrance on the ground floor and indeed has sea view, but also street view with cars and people passing by all the time. The windows have protected foil on them, so normally outsiders can’t look in, but be warned … in the evening they can. We even had a grumpy neighbour letting out his dog and pissing to our window. It also means that you have to go outside to go take the main entrance to have breakfast. Breakfast was at best mediocre and lacking passion to offer some kind of experience.
The room is sufficient furnished, but soul less. Same for the bedrooms, where the beds are really ready for a replacement after an intense life. We had a problem with cleaning in one of the rooms, which was dealt with professionally, but it shouldn’t really happen to be honest.
The building is one of the only original building left in an another wise very mixed environment. On one hand you have the sea, but Scheveningen is one of those coastal places where mass tourism destroyed its charm. All a bit past glory. The hotel tries to keep it up, it’s clean and the reception area is traditionally furnished.
Are you in for a week with your family, beach side and you don’t care too much for the actual hotel experience this is probably a nice option for you. If you expect a bit more luxury and experience for 220+ euros per night like us, then I can’t...
