Lovely clean well appointed upstairs apartment slight view of wharf, stones throw from promenade and shopping centre. Unfortunately we read the green label on the inside of the info folder which informed that the staff "would change the towels and replenish resources, remove rubbish every second day" quote. Well that didnt happen, each day the rubbish added up, then on our last night we noted a sign about two feet above our heads on the window of the door as we returned from our journeying through the day. The sign said "no thanks" ... well, gosh, did I feel upset!! Why on earth would you put a sign way up there?? We then read the rest of the policies which said that we had needed to turn the sign to "yes please" had we wanted the service to the apartment. We had assumed that since the green for go label said "we will service the apartment every second day" then that would be what would happen!! As my sister and I have stayed in many apartments, we read the important green label, skipped to the wifi password and didnt read the small print! I believed it a strategy to reduce the servicing by putting the sign so high up it couldnt be seen ... however the landlord said no, that this was so as not to obscure the view?? Instead of saying she was sorry and she would take on board the suggestion to put the sign within eye level, the landlord said "well, we've never had anybody complain before about the sign" ..."always a first time" I suggested that there may be others who felt as I did but hadn't said anything, another excuse used was that people "had complained" that the sign obscured the view" at eye level. Well at least they could see it and move it! It was unbelievable that this landlord wanted to blame us for not seeing the sign!! Needless to say at the prices charged, we expected some service, never got it..so wont be back there ..

I returned to Russell and wanted to stay in Hananui like I did 2015. We booked on booking. com it's cheaper. Rooms looking sad need to be revamped. We only got 1 toilet paper to share between 3 of us had to ask for more, little chux square to wipe the benches. Our fridge had a broken door shelf fridge kept opening so we asked them to have a look. The husband was annoyed said we had too much food in there .. it's a fridge and left I said thank you but he didn't reply, the wife was nice. The wooden railing you hold onto to walk down the stairs is unstable and balcony with ropes not great. Green salad bowl had a crack in it, dish washing liquid in a blue recycle bottle didn't know what it was, 2 light bulbs not working in lounge and hallway seal on fridge coming away from door. We travel all over the world and stay in Bellagio and Marina Bay Sands to name a few, the price of Hananui is up there pick up your standards this is a tourism area guys.

A very professional yet friendly attitude from my first communication with Hananui Lodge. They offered a variety of accommodation and whilst our family stayed in a beachfront 2 bedroom apartment with stunning views overlooking the beautiful bay at Russell, we stayed in an a less expensive one bedroom apartment in the street behind just a few steps away but equally as pristine clean and comfortable with exemplary facilities, air conditioning and everything you could wish for in a home away from home. There was off street parking in both areas, and it's literally a few steps along the path to the jetty & myriad of waterfront cafes and restaurants in the quaint village. The staff were extremely helpful, even offering advice on our onward route made difficult due to road closures due to cyclone Gabrielle. We would highly recommend here.

Disappointing! Went to view a room after seeing it as available on their website. Lovely room and location, but sadly was let down by owners lack of integrity and honesty in conducting business. Went to book room. Owner quoting prices well in excess of what was advertised on their website. When I raised this he said it was an error. But, that he would honor the price. This quickly changed to I can't honor that price. He then says I will see what I can do and email you through a deal - at the same time as I see him throwing away the paper with our booking details and credit card info into the bin. Clearly had no intention of following through on his commitments. An appalling display of behavior, completly lacking integrity. And even more concerning was his total disregard for the secure handling of my credit card information - writing this down on paper in plain text and then disposing of it in the office bin. Over the next 15mins all the rooms went up by c.$400 per night. Whilst it made for good discussion at the local RSA last. Don't do business with dishonest people on principle, so would not recommend.

UPDATE: Oh pls, give me a break! If you had any integrity you would've made it right at the time or followed through on your commitment to get in touch and/or meet your obligations under the consumer gaureentee / fair trading act. Additonally your duty of care to protect my private information, under the privacy act. Perhaps I send them a screenshot and you can explain to them. And as for your, "you get to choose who stays at Hananui" comment and comments around professionalism. I think my review made clear we not to stay due to your behaviour. Again unprofessional, low integrity dribble! Its like amatuer hour at Hananui! It's operators like you that give Kororareka...

Our family of three recently had the pleasure of staying at the Hananui Lodge & Apartments in Russell, and we couldn't have asked for a better experience. We stayed in one of their waterfront apartments, and the location was absolutely perfect – right on the edge of the bay, with stunning views of the water right from our balcony. It was a treat to wake up each morning to such beautiful scenery.

The apartment itself was spacious, clean, and well-equipped with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The open plan living area made it easy for us to relax as a family, and the kitchen had all the essentials to prepare meals when we wanted to stay in. The bathroom was modern, and we especially appreciated the extra touches like the fresh towels and amenities provided.

One of the highlights of our trip was the fishing. Russell is a great location for this, and we made the most of it, spending a lot of time on the water. The kids loved it, and we were able to bring back a few catches to cook up for dinner.

Aside from the fishing, we really appreciated the peaceful and laid-back vibe of the area. Russell itself is charming, with plenty of places to explore, including the nearby beaches, local shops, and restaurants. Plus, we were just a short drive from some of the best attractions in the Bay of Islands.

Overall, we had a wonderful stay at Hananui Lodge & Apartments. The combination of a prime location, fantastic views, and a welcoming atmosphere made it the perfect choice for our family. We’d love to return in the future and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing...
