Yummy! Nasi Goreng in the North of New Zealand...
Travel to one of the utmost North Town in NZ. I went into a typical restaurant and café and was surprised to see a S.E.Asian cuisine. I just have to order that dish. The regular stuff is too common, and to be able to cook up a great Nasi Goreng (Rice fried), not only does it have to be delicious, but it must be authentic.
I placed my order, paid for the meal, and left the restaurant to get my bag. For a moment, I wonder if they would serve the dish and put it on my table even when I am not around.
When I came back, I was glad that the food was only served when I sat down. A huge A star for the restaurant for doing that.
The half a dozen oysters are great, and with a little lemon and pickled onion, it was just perfect. I could eat another dozen without hesitation.
The Nasi Goreng came to my table, still steaming hot. When I dig my fork into the rice, steam evolves out of the centre of the rice. Perfecto.
The presentation of the Nasi Goreng was beautiful. The colour combination makes it appetising and attractive. I especially like the spicy fragrance of satay scent, and the best part of the fried rice is that each grains are smother or wrapped by the spice and sauce. A good chef knows that great fried rice does not spare any grains of rice, and even grain is fried or covered with the oil and spice. No white grain rice allowed.
Chef Scotty definitely has done it well by taking time to ensure each grain of rice is fried. We chat a little over the meal, and one makes him special is his willingness to seek customer's opinions... a huge star for the restaurant
Well done!
All the staff are friendly, smiling most of the time and professional. Butterfish is indeed an...
Read moreVery poor service. I was in a group of four, who were well into their lunches, my toasted sandwich still had not arrived. I pointed this out to a waiter who indicated it would be there soon. One of our party went and asked some time later only to be told they had forgotten the (paid) order and the one the waitress was holding at the time was the last one and had been bought by another customer. It should have been given to me as I had been waiting for about 45 minutes! Instead they agreed to make another. Everyone else had finished their lunches and I was losing patience so went and asked myself and was told it was in the oven and would take three more minutes. Some time later my friend went and asked. They said it was still in the oven so she stood at the counter until they gave it to her! She suggested they give us our money back after their blunder and the hour plus wait. They...
Read moreWe went here for Mother's Day, they had a sign on their door saying they were short staffed so I knew there may be a wait for food etc.. The lady serving at the till was nice. Our iced chocolate and iced coffees eventually came which were unfortunately terrible they were more like a small glass filled with ice, milk, cream on top, and half a drop of coffee/choc.. the waitress tried to carry all 3 drinks at once, spilling it down the glasses and onto the table, no apology and didn't come back to wipe it up. One of 3 meals was brought to the table, and we sat around for half an hour waiting for the other 2 - it would have been nice to get all meals at once so we could eat together. Chips were lukewarm at best and so were the baked beans. Eggs were however poached PERFECTLY! For a special occasion we were left feeling very...
