Marlin Court Motel — Hotel in Bay of Islands-Whangaroa Community

This is one motel where first impressions can be wrong. Walking into the apartments they can appear a bit stark and functional. However, they have a reasonably equipped kitchen, they are clean (serviced daily), spacious, quiet at night and can quickly be made to feel like home for a few days ... there was even fresh milk in the fridge for us when we arrived. Hosts are lovely. Top tip for any folks from the UK - avoid the Gumboot tea sachets ... they are not Yorkshires finest!||||From the Marlin, it's a very easy walk down to the various bars and restaurants along the waterfront as well as being a good base for going on trips. The Marlin Court motel was very clean, and wonderfully staffed. We enjoyed our room and found it very comfortable. The bathrooms were well kept as was the little kitchen area which was well equipped with any utensils, pots, pans and dishes you could need to cook yourself an easy meal. The staff were so kind upon check in and check out. We left on a rainy day and they even offered us a lift to the bus station to save us from getting soaked while walking. I would certainly stay again, I have never received such great hospitality anywhere else and such clean rooms for such a low price. It might not be the most modern place but it is well loved. We stay in Motels all over this country due to nature of the work we do.

When we stayed here the first time in 2021, we were struck by the warm nature of the host Ruth. She made us feel welcomed. Most moteliers we encounter lack in this key area. You never get a 2nd chance to make a good first impression.

Marlin Court is a def stop over for us now due mainly to this.

The rooms are very clean, appointed nicely, affordable, and it is a short stroll to all the amenities of the local township.

Be sure to listen out for Tui's first thing in the morning.
