Edelweiss Motel — Hotel in Bay of Islands-Whangaroa Community

We had a tribe of 9 adults and 3 kids. We picked 3 rooms in this motel specifically for the heated pool and being Christmas, we knew the weather would be changeable. This place was most adequate for our needs. It's a great family joint. I can't say it is flash but the units were comfortable enough for a large family group like us wandering from room to room. When we first arrived, we wanted to change the configeration of our booking. We found the hosts very helpful and keen to do their best to make this possible. They helped us park a very large trailer and also provided extra towels, a vacumn cleaner and other bits and pieces we needed. They were friendly and very helpful. The rooms were somewhat tired and dreary but we were able to overlook the many flaws presented here because of the heated pool in which we spent many hours over the six nights we stayed. Seeing the many other fabulous motels and hotels with cold empty pools confirmed that we'd made a good decision to stay here. With regards to cleanliness, we think the rundown condition of the property makes it seem dirty but we found it not bad. I was very happy with my stay.

It started with the ease of making an online booking. The photos are true to reality. My room was actually a bit bigger than I thought it was going to be.

The gentleman at reception was very friendly and helpful and check in took only minutes.

Unfortunately I didn't have the opportunity to use the heated pool and spa (time constraint), but it was a nice touch that it was part of the facilities.

The location is perfect. It's not smack on the main drag, so less traffic, but within walking distance of many interesting sight seeing places and restaurants.

I was actually a bit unwell one of the days and it was brilliant to be able to stay tuck up in bed and having such a big variety of satellite channels to watch.

When we arrived at the Motel, the computer system was down, so had to tell them who we were and how long we had booked for. They asked if we booked online, as they didn't know anything. In the unit the toilet wasnt bolted to floor properly, felt unsafe sitting on it. No wifi at all, no milk on arrival. Microwave was growing mould. Under the oven elements was disgusting , opened the oven and that looked disgusting as well. Only had two pudding plates for 4 people. Didn't get fresh towels for the second day of our stay. The kitchen brush for washing the dishes looked like it had been used to clean the toilet, it was so gross. The TV didn't work when it rained, I was told that the tvs in the othe units didn't work.
