Located near a busy intersection, Mills Lodge is one of many 3 star motels located in Hamilton. I booked here for one night.
There is one parking spot per unit, and vehicle entry is possible both from the north and east side of the building. Reception was nice, and offered milk for use to mix with tea and coffee. You are given a key alongside with a tag that indicates the room number, upon entry the room looks clean.
There are unfortunately no basic amenities such as toothbrushes but soap and towels are provided on site. There is no hair conditioner and no reception phone in the unit. Power points are scattered oddly throughout the room and most importantly there are none between the main table where doing work may prove difficult. In the kitchen cutlery and plates are greasy, while some utensils are bent. There are no gas/induction/heated stovetops in this unit but you are provided with a microwave, fridge and kettle. The curtain rails are bent where light can leak and the curtain material has holes from years of fatigue. Furthermore the location of the motel is in a very busy intersection where loud motorcycles and vehicles make sleeping in the night quite difficult for a sensitive sleeper.
Most importantly, there are bed bugs in the unit. I was unfortunate to receive a fair share of bites, which annoy me to this very moment. I find it unacceptable for a motel to not have it's pests under control.
There is thankfully free WiFi on site, but it is only shared VDSL which after a speedtest returned downloads of 9Mbps. Surprisingly, you can stream YouTube videos with mild stuttering.
Check out is 10AM the next day.
Unfortunately even with good staff, with bad management I personally would not recommend this place for anyone even...
Read moreWe chose this motel(booked through Booking.com) as it was close to a venue where we had attended a birthday earlier in the day. Upon arival I went to check in at the (smelly) reception, the receptionist asked to see my credit card( I had already paid and the funds had left my account that morning) he then looked at my card and asked âDo you have funds?â. Iâm not to sure why he asked me this question as 1. I had already paid IN FULL. 2. Why would I travel without any âfundsâ. I felt this question was racialy motivated and was only asked because I was Maori. I just stared at him and said âyesâ and that was the end of that. 5 minutes latter my cousin (who had already paid for her room) checks in but didnt have her card on her so the guy asks her to pay for another room$120.00 (as a security deposit) and he will transfer the money back the next day. Is that the norm?. I would have expected a much warmer reception comming out of level4-3 and my whanau had booked 3 rooms, thatâs alot of money.||All our rooms smelt musty and stale but we were only staying one night so we didnât bother complaining. I think I expected more comming durring covid level 2 and thought that everything would be sparkly clean and fresh. I was wrong. We also ran out if hot water for our spa. I do not...
Read moreMy most favorite part of the room is the bathroom. I really like how the toilet and the shower and basin are separated, so one can do their business and the other does theirs, without claiming the entire bathroom. I also like the fact that it is very new, I can see that the carpet and the bathroom has just been renovated, with an air pump / air conditioner newly installed so it's all very nice. The shower box is a little small, maybe difficult for larger bodies. The kitchen in comparison is a little old, and the bed lacks a proper blanket. The 'blanket' provided is both a cover and a blanket, so you'd need to tuck the `blanket' inside the sheet. Least favourite of the room is the door. Its a glass sliding door, so can easily be broken in. The neighbourhood is also tiny, so you'd actually know who you're staying next door to.. not really secure there or for privacy sake it's not really good. Not too soundproof either, can hear next door neighbour's TV when it's on, and can here a lot of cars and people talking. The wifi here is free, but extremely poor quality connection, so won't be able to use it. Overall it's an ok stay, only stayed for a day so I wouldn't worry too much, but if it's a long stay I'll definitely get somewhere with better security and...
