Fairy Springs Motel — Hotel in North Island

I emailed the motel but had no response, so it seems they don't care about my concerns. So sharing here so that others go in with their eyes open.

I wanted to give you some feedback from our stay this weekend. We were warmly welcomed and you were a very friendly host. However, I was really disappointed by the standard of the accomodation. We normally stay in cabins on campsites so we are used to basic accomodation, but decided to treat ourselves to a motel so that we could cook food, relax in the evening with the hotpools and a movie after a full on day of mountain biking. I wrote a special request before coming to ask for twin beds for my teenage boys. I received an email saying this request was accepted. So as far as I was aware, I had let you know that we had 1 mum and 2 children coming. My son was disappointed to find he had to share a bed with me. As was I. It was not a good night's sleep!

The hot pools not working was a real disappointment. We had chosen the accomodation for this and feel you should have let us know beforehand. I think it was then cheeky to ask for more money from us when you were not offering the facilities that we were paying for. To then find out that the TV was broken added to this. We specifically wanted to hang out in the evening with a movie and were left with no entertainment - no hotpools or tv.

The first morning I went to cook breakfast to discover there was no baking tray in the oven so I could not use the oven at all. There was limited utensils - a metal spatula and a soup spoon. Nothing to stir the pot. There was no sharp knife and no scissors. There was not enough crockery either - only 2 knives. We had to share a knife in order to eat our breakfast. There was also not enough glasses (only 2) so i had to drink from a wine glass.

I asked for a baking tray and this was delivered, thank you, but i got fed up with having to ask... for the tv, for baking tray, so I didn't bother with the rest.

When we got back from our day out I went to cook and everything in the fridge was frozen (the setting was on 1?). Our vegetables and fruit were ruined. So we had to go out to get food.

So no dinner in, no tv and no hotpools.

The room was tidy, clean and you were hospitable but I was disappointed by my stay. I think you need to ensure that every room has the correct amount of crockery, utensils and equipment before letting the room and let people know if you cant not offer the facilities on your website. I also think that if you don't want people to charge their cars this needs to be stated on your website. I chose a motel so I could park outside and charge whilst I was there, but was told that I couldn’t.

It is great to have the motel so near to skyline for the mtb events but I will be reluctant to book...

We stayed in the end studio unit right next to the Skyline across the fence. There were only two of us, and the queen bed and single bed were firm but comfortable. The room was very spacious, with a fully equipped kitchen including a stove and oven, the bathroom too had great space, and the room overall was kept very clean and tidy. The fan was handy keeping the heat at bay during the hot summer night, basic sky channels provided, and everything needed for our one-night stay. ||Check-in was very simple and the host was very friendly and kind. The yard has a simple playground, and the grounds could use a bit of life. But that aside, its a nice motel and good enough for a short stay. If you don't mind the facilities and just need a decent room that'll get you through your trip in Rotorua, then it may be suitable for longer stays. The 2 bedroom unit # 5: was tidy, sheets clean and crisp. However the Motel as a whole is worn and needs a good spruce up. Shower was lovely, good pressure and hot. Good grounds, so close to Skyline New Zealand. Here are our comments.

Had a slight dip between the dining and the hallway to the 2nd bedroom and toilet, this is dangerous as we did trip a couple of times. The bed in the lounge, looks like it is supposed to be attached to the wall, however this is not so, we couldn't get the bolt in so it bangs on the wall, the bolt is loose. it is dangerous. The coffee etc had not been filled up. No instant coffee, only 1 sugar. Really! There were 3 of us in this unit. All the unit needs is a spruce up, paint, level the floor, fix the bed.
