The bed & breakfast is located on the south edge of Coromandel Town - a few minutes drive or a 15 minute walk to the centre. The driveway off Whangapoua Road is a bit of a round about way to access with a car but it's easy on foot to just cut onto Tiki Road for a direct route to town. ||||That road has a pavement but the section near the B&B is not lit at night (and the street lights before this are spaced generously) so we found it handy to have a head torch after darkness when returning after a meal and drink (keys are provided for access). There is an alternative route which our hostess, Claire, advised us about and we used this in daylight hours.||||The property has a similar appearance of a small motel with the three guest rooms in a block and parking alongside, however all rooms are accessed from a corridor. Our room, the Oyster Suite, was furthest from the roadside and we didn't get disturbed by any traffic noise. I doubt if it would be an issue in any of the rooms.||||These are very spacious rooms, spotlessly clean and have many facilities you would expect in a very good hotel. Generous sized comfy bed, four comfortable armchairs, desk & chair, a fridge, tea & coffee making facilities, wall mounted television with multiple channel options, quality soft furnishings, a walk-in wardrobe/bag store and an ensuite bathroom. The latter contained a walk-in shower which had good water pressure, there is no bath.||||We couldn't see instructions for use of the television and weren't sure about access to Netflix, etc however I assume these options are available to guests.||||A patio door led to a decking area with seats overlooking the lawn and the countryside. With our various activities we didn't get a chance to make much use of these.||||We found the free wifi was not particularly good and it took Claire several attempts on a couple of occasions to process our card payment so I suspect it is just down to strength of connection, or lack of it.||||Unprompted, Claire was helpful in contacting our walking tour operator to arrange for pick up at the B&B, rather than us going into town to rendezvous with them. She also made available facilities for us to make our packed lunch for the tour - including providing home grown tomatoes and provided a jug of fresh milk for the fridge! We had a good chat with her at breakfast over the couple of days we stayed, especially as she shared a family farming background which was similar in ways to my wife. ||||Breakfast consisted of a cooked option and a huge range of other items - the table was almost groaning. Claire was very attentive so there was no chance of going away feeling hungry. We weren't mad about the bacon but that's a personal preference of ours for the lean variety. On day one we were the only guests and on day two we shared the breakfast table with another couple. ||||Overall at $210/£104 per night we thought it was good value for money and could easily recommend a stay. ||||We stayed 2 nights in March 2020, prior to the...
Read moreWe had a fantastic night at this lovely new purpose built B & B. It is in a great location just a short walk to restaurants and shops in the quaint little historic town of Coromandel. We have a lovely big room which was sunny, light and airie, with it's own private patio. It was well equipped and sparkling clean. The furniture was very comfortable and stylish and the bed was superking and very comfortable. We had a delicious full cooked breakfast including lovely fresh strawberries. Served in a nice sunny dining, kitchen area. Clair was an excellent host, friendly and welcoming. The great thing was that they even had room to park our 6m boat which not many places can do. It is in a picturesque rural setting over looking the mountains of the Coromandel and a lovely garden. We are hoping to go back for longer soon so that we can do more fishing and walk the coastal walkway just north of Coromandel. There is so much to do near the town. The Driving Creek Railway is a must on a sunny with spectacular views over the Firth of Thames to Auckland and Great Barrier Island. It is also nearby to Whitianga and Hahei with Cathedral Cove and Hot Water Beach. There is so much to do in and around this town I recommend staying here...
Read moreWe, a family of three, stayed one night at the Aotea B&B, where we had two rooms. We usually rented hotel rooms, but as we found no appropriate hotel availability in Coromandel, this was the first time that we did a reservation in a B&B. What a lucky choice! The Aotea B&B is a lot more comfortable and luxurious than most hotels, even those in the upper price category. The bedrooms are very spacy, such that the Aotea B&B is an excellent option when staying in Coromandel for several nights. The rooms come with very practical walk-in closets, and with big and bright modern bathrooms. Everything is like brand new, clean, and very well maintained. A special mention must be made of the à la carte breakfast served by Claire in person. It was a great stay and we regret that we had booked...
