Greenview Motel — Hotel in North Island

My husband and I stayed for a few nights over Easter weekend. Where do I start...Biggest Mistake. This place should be shut down due to health and safety. Very run-down, over priced and dirty. The bathroom...Disgusting. Don't even know how to describe the toilet. Stained toilet bowl and the seat looked like someone had taken a knife to it. Deep scratch marks...just great for germs. Shower...Gross. One look put me off. Very dirty around the windows with peeling paint and mould. Bed uncomfortable with springs digging into our backs. No electric blanket, or extra pillows. The pillow protectors on both beds were ripped and had yellow stains. There's a notice on the Living room wall which reads....Please help us to keep the rooms clean and tidy, so that we can give good quality to every coming guest every time. There was no cleaning and changing of sheets, towels etc the whole time we stayed. The black clear file which is hidden in the bedside cabinet says it gets changed everyday. The one bedside cabinet had cup stains on top and was very dirty. No aircon, just a old heater and fan in the wardrobe. Not many power points. Did have a fridge, jug, microwave and toaster. Cutlery not that clean. No comfortable seating. Very noisy due to being situated behind a busy BP service station and on a corner of busy roads. Very noisy neighbours with young kids running up and down the corridors and balcony outside our room. The noise went on until after 11pm. Not much sleep. No smoke alarm. I would definitely not recommend this place to stay. We couldn't wait to leave. Unfortunately due to Easter, everywhere else was fully booked. Save your Money! Do not stay here. This one night accommodation was marred with disappointment. We stayed in July (winter) our standard family room had no heating. We weren't aware of this before we booked. The remote for our TV didn't work along with the phone in our room to call reception to please fix the TV. Eventually we changed the batteries on the remote ourselves and still the TV didn't go. Generally the room felt dirty and my whole family of 4 slept on top of our bed in our clothes to stay warm and not catch bed bugs. The spa pool which was the main attraction to soak our bones after a busy working week was not inviting at all tissues floating in and outside the pool and so much more run down than the original booking photo of the couple in the spa. To top off our stay...a big group of people had a party and we left at 0930 am they were still yahooing. By law the motel is to be available 24 hours a day at night for noise control complaints etc...Two number we used including 0800 number did not work. The council was unable to attend the noise control complaint as it was the motels responsibility. In the end at 4am my husband and I confronted the party goers to no avail. Such a disappointing time, we will not be back and for $200 a night...

Summary: Avoid this motel at all costs, unhygienic and extremely loud.

Bad: Noisy: the soundproofing between rooms and outside is absolutely awful, heard every bang and conversation from other guests, noise from traffic is terrible the window design is outdated and the gaps between the ranch slider door meant we could hear every vehicle that went by.

Mould: The mould in the bathroom is disgusting, almost every surface had mould. The mould extended into the main room, even the kettle was mouldly inside!

Beds: mattresses needed replacing years ago, could feel every spring and wire. Beds weren't made a single day past the first night.

BP Lights: with the BP being right next door the lights from the forecourt bled into the room, the curtains didn't block much of the light.

Toilet Leak: the toilet would intermittently fill constantly and leak out into the bowl adding to the constant noise throughout the night.

Good: Redwoods: The motel is a short distance from the redwoods forest and the staff allowed us to keep our bikes in the room.

Room Size: Rooms are spacious.

Check In: Check in was easy, we arrived after hours and was able to retrieve our key from lockbox outside...
