LakeSide Taupō Motel — Hotel in North Island

The new owner called me to try to get me to change the accommodation I had booked. A bad start. I specifically chose downstairs accommodation as I was traveling with an elderly relative. He wanted me to move to upstairs units and change to us all sleeping in one big room. By the end of the call he realised that he better leave my booking like it was as he could tell I was not impressed.||||When we arrived a large wheely rubbish bin was parked directly outside the rooms and a worker was sitting smoking at a small table. The ashtray full of butts left the entire time we were there and the smoke blew into the rooms. I ended up moving the bin myself.||||There is no aircon and a note in the visitors book said large midge type insects come in when the lights are on at night but don't worry they don't bite they are just annoying so leave the windows closed. Fantastic when there is no aircon and it is the middle of summer. We waited until we had all the lights out before we could open the windows.||||The new owner also owns a large 100 room establishment down the road. When I asked about being able to order breakfast I was told that service had been discontinued and they are now asking their guests to walk 100 yards down the road to the other establishment as they serve buffet breakfast. So, if you like having breakfast in a leisurely fashion before you have your morning shower DO NOT stay at this motel. ||||Overall I think this motel should not have the word Executive in the title as it implies it is much more than it is. There were not even any tissues in the bathroom cupboard. Also, the water is extremely hard and they do not provide conditioner so if you like your hair like straw, go right ahead an book at this motel. It is very apparent that the owners do the bare minimum to keep this motel running. There is no reception at all. Rooms are adequate for 1 night. Bed and pillows very uncomfortable, cheapest options purchased no doubt. Bathroom window was left open slightly (not by us) and we were overrun with bugs at night all throughout the room, kitchen and bathroom. Toilet paper is 1ply or maybe half ply if that exists? Bathroom smelt like bleach and the fan did not do anything at all to get rid of condensation. The kitchen was basic and had 1 item per person. The plug was in a very poor position and dangerous, it was right above the elements. Other plugs sockets were coming away from the wall - very unsafe. TV was a decent size and had many channels. So the hotel owner decides to call me a keyboard warrior. Have a look in the mirror lady your the keyboard warrior. I was just giving you a review and another thing that is up to us if we want to give our child a bath or a shower if I wanted to give her a shower I could have but we had proof of what we purchased online and still u were the one been rude. It is really difficult when u have a tired and upset child u might not know so don't try and comment on me. And also if ended up travelling as it took us longer to come so what we could not make the time of 12. Instead of solving the issue u decided to blame everything on Expedia if you don't like them that much don't put motel on their website.
