Extraordinary! Decided to stop in ohakune to break drive from Wellington to Taupo and feeling so grateful that we did! Stayed for two nights to allow day hikes in ruapehu/tongariro area.
Susie and Alan are the most gracious hosts - welcoming our family of 4 with warmth, local tips for hikes and spots to visit, and great food recs. Their library of books and games kept our 14 and 11 year olds smiling and occupied and their witty banter with us was a highlight of our trip.
Visiting New Zealand in the winter - we were SO Happy to walk into their WARM and comfy space - with central heat, radiant floors, electric bed warmers, towel warmers…. No detail overlooked!
Breakfast in am - DELISH!! Hot Sweet and savory options, fresh bread plus a continental spread. Susie and Alan accommodated our portion/ food preferences seamlessly.
If you are looking to do tongariro crossing - this is an amazing place to set base camp from…. 30m to trailhead and loads of wisdom, treats, and charm to fuel the journey.
Can’t wait to return!
Cheers...
Read moreWe made an impromptu trip to Ohakune, over Labour weekend and were very warmly received by Alan and Susie at the lodge. They are super-friendly and we had some lovely conversations over a home-cooked breakfast that I would describe as thoughtfully prepared and delicious. Thanks to their suggestions and advice, we could make the most of our short stay in Ohakune, with lovely bush walks in Ohakune and a trek upto the Taranaki waterfall through Tongariro bush and native grass; even getting an opportunity to go up Mount Ruapehu and watch the skiers in action on the last day of ski season! The room in the lodge was very comfortable and tastefully designed and it was clear that a lot of thought had gone into even the littlest details. The bathroom was modern and neat. We came back with some homemade honey, good memories and two new friends in Alan and Susie! Looking forward to visiting there again and we'd certainly recommend them to anyone looking to travel upto...
