Honestly so disappointed in this place. Came in for Father's day lunch after the rush (their words, and plenty of free tables).
The chairs have weirdly no backs, only neck level support and my preschooler leant back and fell straight through and smacked his head on the stone hearth, right in front of the counter, and in clear view of staff. This isn't a fault of the cafe, accients happen with kids- but the kid was clearly hurt, couldve been serious and staff made no attempts check if he was okay or if we needed any help. They saw it all and looked annoyed that we were even there. Where is the human decency?! Had to approach them for something for first aid and was reluctantly given an ice pack.
Secondly, after ordering and waiting 25 minutes, 2 meals arrived (cabinet food- heated, but not the whole way through) but a WHOLE HOUR later the rest of the party's food arrived. 3 kids meals (v unhappy kids by this point, expected kids meals to be first out), one chicken burger and one eggs benny... honestly if I could give service could give negative stars I would. Food was average and the $25 chicken burger had chicken portion smaller than the tomato slice. We went next door to the toasted sandwhich shop right after and got tastier, better value for money meal. Shouldve just gone there first.
Avoid Utopia Cafe....
Read moreStaff bring all the good vibes! I’ve been in weekly over the last 6 months or so and the staff are always working hard and there too greet us with a big smile and kōrero. I have even been in when they get the entitled, grumpy customers and y’all handle it way better than I could ever lol my partner has wanted to step in a few times to speak up for yous..but you tough. The food always hits the spot and it’s the nicest spot to chill and if you sit upstairs you get a beautiful mountain view! Lately I have been enjoying seeing the young wahine and the taller tane working together the place feels so upbeat and the energy sets the tone for my days..they’re always accomodating to me...

So many treasures here, one of which is Utopia Cafe. Great service, fantastic food, and a wonderful atmosphere. You can almost park outside, but a walk after your visit around the town is quite an exploration.
Both the cabinet food and the menu items have never disappointed.
I'm confident that this recommendation will you equally impressed.
Across the road is a small park and over a walk bridge is short bush walk beside a stream. The sound of water and birds makes for a restful stop.
Well worth...
