The Quarters — Hotel in North Island

We can’t recommend this place enough. Our family recently stayed in the Fisherman’s Cottage which is located at the back of the property and is very quiet. We travelled with a 6-metre boat so for us the fact we could park both the car and boat safely off the road in the space provided was a real bonus. The entire property has recently undergone a major revamp and the love and thought that has been poured into it really shows. From the super comfy beds to the gorgeous décor and well-equipped kitchen nothing has been overlooked. Air-conditioning was a surprise and made for a great night’s sleep on those warmer nights. We loved the communal BBQ area. It was a real treat and made hosting some passing friends for dinner super easy. The location right next to the Tongariro River provided quick access to the much-recommended river trail and of course all the famous fishing spots. My husband, Jeff Thurston, recently returned from working on a challenging and high-pressure project in Turangi for two weeks. During his stay, he was accommodated at The Quarters—and he hasn’t stopped raving about it since!

He was genuinely impressed by the beautiful decor and the warm, welcoming atmosphere. After long, physically demanding days on the tools, coming back to such a comfortable, homely, and peaceful space made a world of difference. He described it as the perfect place to unwind and recharge.

We have just returned from an amazing stay at The Quarters. It’s recently been completely renovated, with beautiful decor and furnishing making it a luxurious retreat. We stayed in the main house and the beds were amazing - probably the best we’ve ever slept in, with high quality linens and duvets.

There are a range of different accommodation options and we stayed here as part of a bigger group of friends, all with their own families and young children. The mix of different options worked well, with an awesome outdoor entertainment/bbq space perfect for coming together and sharing meals. There are great kitchen facilities also provided in the house and apartments.

The location is unbeatable right next to the river and the many beautiful tracks and trails. Just across the road is barista coffee.
