Turangi Tavern — Restaurant in Waikato

Food was quite nice but wow... I hope you've won lotto before you go because it's super expensive for what you get.

In terms of service, 2 people walked past us at the bar 3 times each before one stopped to serve us. When we went to order our starters and mains, they informed us that the food arrives when it arrives and they can't guarantee that the starters arrive first ... youd think you can just make life easy and do them first but no ... so I said cancel the mains for now and I'll come back and order that. Meals arrive and we ask for a steak knife. The KID who served us, then said "oh yeah they're over there in the grey basket". No offer to bring them over, not even when I somewhat rudely commented back "oh I guess I'll go grab them then"

In terms of atmosphere, it's a local pub and the atmosphere is reflective of that.

It's a nice place for a meal if you're rich, but don't expect much from the staff. It'd be somewhere I'd go if you're a local wanting to relax after a hard day with a beer (but not a meal), but otherwise I'd pass...

Food was okay - nothing special. We were told it was a 45 minute wait for food which we were fine with. They were quite busy and we were happy to have a drink while waiting. I went to get my daughter a water and noticed the water jug was empty and no cups. I asked the server if I could please get a water and he grumpily told me “no we are busy, the cups are all dirty and I don’t have time to fill the water”. He was very rude. Food was served to us well over a hour later - My daughter still didn’t receive her meal until half an hour after we had gotten ours served. It was only garlic bread and fries, so I went up and asked for a time frame for her meal. Again the same server was the one to tell me “it’s gonna be ages, I actually don’t know” backed up by a chef saying it will come when it comes. Service is so incredibly important, and while I understand you were under the pump this has left the worst taste in my mouth and this server actually ruined our experience. I do...

Ordered mussels, pork ribs, pork belly and kids menu got dogs. The portions were huge and delicious. Ribs nicely seasoned and tender. Pork belly was crispy and soft at the right places. Came with vegetables and a nicely drained mashed potatoes. The sauce for the mussels is crazy good. I'm not due how to describe it. Creamy with a bit of tang. Mussels are fresh. Kids hot dogs battered and came with twister fries. Portions are big and good for a hunger person. People are friendly. There is a game room for the adults but children are allowed in the pub if accompanied by parents. There is a corner for sports TV. The bare served up lots of pull beers and other drinks and cocktails. I'm sorry for lack of info here cause I don't drink but the other patrons seemed to be having a good time. Good food, drinks, company...
