Isolation Bay — Hotel in South Island

A stunningly designed home in a truly unique location—but unfortunately, it’s been left to deteriorate with little to no maintenance since it was put up as a holiday rental.

The kitchen was filthy on arrival, and we had to spend considerable time cleaning it before it was usable.

While the fireplace is a striking feature, the blocked chimney causes smoke to back up into the living area, making it unusable unless the doors are left open—which completely defeats the purpose. The main door facing the incredible view doesn’t open properly and is in need of repair.

Worryingly, parts of the carpet are held down with gaffer tape, and sections of the timber flooring are only partially ground down, giving the interior a half-finished, neglected feel.

It’s genuinely sad to see such an architecturally special home so poorly cared for.

At $2,000 a night, this level of upkeep is unacceptable.

On that note if the owner sees this I hope they reconsider the company managing this property and it gets the love it so deserves.

The hot tub was nice even though it could not hold temperature at night time (wanted to stargaze in the tub)

Memorable experience staying in this beautiful house and breathtaking surroundings. Kids had fun bouncing on the trampoline, trying their hands at chopping fire wood, and playing at the pebbly beach. Stunning residence with epic views and a world class setting. The hosts were superb and very responsive. We were 9 adults and 6 kids. We all slept well with plenty of bedding options. The hot tub is spectacular too. Thank you again for a wonderful weekend. Family memories...
