Jack in the Green - BBH — Hotel in South Island

We were disappointed to see how backwards this place has gone since staying here 18 months earlier. There was a bottle of ‘lube’ left under the bed, the room was heavily scented with air freshener, wifi was weak & patchy, there was minimal bathroom linen provided, the liquid soap was watered down to the point of not being soap anymore, the communal kitchen facilities were no longer available and the bed was uncomfortable. We were happy to leave first thing in the morning & felt that we paid too much for what we got, especially compared to our experience there last time. We would not recommend this place as an accommodation. We appreciate that times are tough for the hospitality industry right now, we feel that Jack in the Green has made too many cuts and has shifted from being a lovely place to stay to being down right...

Arrived in the afternoon, note was left saying staff were out, to see your allocated room on the chart and key was in your door. Got settled in and a young man arrived to show us round the property more, very friendly and helpful. Room was warm with heater and the bed was so comfy! Living space was tidy and warm with the fire and the kitchen was well equipped for everyone. Was a 15 min walk to town, amazing views. Parking was down the drive enough for 6 or so cars. Only down side was we were in the room next to the kitchen so we could hear other guests chatting till midnight and people toileting opposite the room. Someone chose to have a shower at midnight, which woke everyone up. Would stay again just not...

It was in a lovely setting and the room was clean. There were 3 of us in a 4 bed (single) room which was fine. However! What do you do about the other person talking on the phone all night to someone in Europe? Sleep was scarce! Perhaps notices are needed! Also I was frustrated that every night the lights were left on in the main part of the hostel. this happened both nights and even though I turned them off (for environmental reasons!) I felt the owner - who we only saw on arrival - should be checking this. Recycling was great as in all the accommodation we stayed in in NZ. It was ok but lacking any atmosphere. ||Recommend is the view at the top of Conical Hill and the Hot-springs...
