Absolutely lovely and homey little restaurant! I would definitely recommend Petras Souvlakis to anyone. The family? that owns the business is very lovely and they cook right in front of you which is quite awesome to see! They are all clearly skilled and know exactly what to do.
I initially did not want to go into the store, but my partner insisted on it so I accepted. The seating area inside is a little small, so not too great for people like me who dislike small spaces.
As for the food, my partner and I each got a souvlaki, chicken and falafel and a shared platter of chips. To say the least, the souvlaki's were likely the best I have ever had. The souvlaki was filled to the brim with fresh lettuce, cucumber and tomato, and topped with sauce and beautiful falafel balls that were absolutely delicious. Chips were great as well, not over-salted or over/under...
Read moreReally average experience here tonight. Food was below standard in our opinion and for x2 adults and x2 kids was $92. Like many other reviewers had stated, the meat in the souvlaki was dumped on top so had to open it up to eat so it wasn’t just all meat then all salad. Thought maybe that would have changed after reading the negative feedback regarding this. Wrap was pretty small for a ‘“large” size too. Iskender was also a boring meal, something that you could easily whip up at home yourself. The food itself was quite plain and didn’t have much flavour, although everything was cooked properly. We are comparing this to some of our local Turkish joints and it’s really different. We also found the staff not friendly or approachable either. Sorry no photos as we wanted to just eat and leave. Would reconsider if you’re thinking of coming here to eat, not...
Read moreDisappointed to say the least. Got a beef wrap (kebab style) and the meat was in huge pieces and very tough and chewy. The pieces of meat were too big to bite through so the entire piece came out of the wrap at once dripping sauce all over your face. The sauces they put in the wrap turned to soup instantly and it was a mess to eat. I had mine takeaway and the juice dripped right through the foil and bag and all over the floorboard of the car. I got 1/3 of the way through it and had sauce everywhere. Asked the wife to pull over so I could pour out the soup sauce and attempt to eat more of the wrap because he flavours were great...but it wasn’t worth it, too full of soup and chewy. Tossed the remaining 2/3’s of the $17 wrap in the bin. I would seriously have asked for a refund if we weren’t headed out of Hanmer...
