Kiwi Heritage Homestay — Hotel in Whau

I can think of no better way to have made my entry to this wonderful land than via this home, sweet home! I arrived at night and not till the following morning did I come to appreciate my good fortune! I woke to a light breeze that carried a sweet scent from the garden flora and stepped out to a balcony with views of the skyline and distant hills. The room and common areas were clean and homy and the ammenities quite ample. I had my first NZ breakfast at the outdoor patio and under a tree. The bus stop is conveniently located a stone-throw's away and made for easy access to the city. I walked the nearby neighborhoods which gave me a first glimpse into NZ life. Before arrival, I received a personal email from the host (Tina) informing me of all that I needed to know about my stay there. When more than a week later and after having reached the south Island I realized that I had forgotten my rainjacket behind, Tina offered to mail it to me and made good on the offer. We loved the heritage factor and to see that Auckland City Council help maintain it as a heritage Building. Beautifully kept but I think it could be upgraded in furnishings. Needs a mirror in bedroom and door to our balcony could not be opened. However we were welcomed very well. Communication before we arrived was clear, directions clear and followed through with friendly hosts. It is on main road with lots of traffic which is a problem for light sleepers. We needed bed for the night in this location and couldnt have asked for a better choice. We loved the feel of the place with its 'art deco' vibe. High ceilings and polished wooden floors were a hit. The beds in our upstairs spacious room just across from the bathroom were extremely comfortable. The views out across the city from the high vantage point really special. Simple breakfast of delicious homemade muesli and plunger coffee finished off our very pleasant nights stay.
