This is a beautiful hotel with nicely furnished rooms. I had meals at 3 of the onsite restaurants here and they are superb. So why the 2 star rating? Here’s why:||1. The door didn’t haven’t a latch. Housekeeping knocked on the door and before I could get up they already opened it. They were delivering a very nice welcome gift. When I expressed surprise at them entering, they said to put the “do not disturb” sign on the door in the future. So you basically have to have that sign on the door when you’re in the room. Whereas at hotels that have latches or a safety bar, it’s at least one deterrent to someone barging in.|2. The temperature control doesn’t work. I like cool rooms (in the mid to high 60’s) when I sleep, and the room was at 71. The thermostat did not have a temperature number, just an up/down scale. I told the front desk about it when I left for dinner the first night. When I got back the temperatura was unchanged (I have a travel alarm with a temperature gauge). I called, and they said the engineer checked and it was the lowest it could go. A few minutes later they called again and said that because a window was open in my room, it prevented the A/C from working. I told them I never touched the window, so the front desk came to my room. He discovered the window was broken, and offered to change my room. I had to pack up all my stuff (this is after traveling and being up for 33 hours and desperately tired) and moved to the new room. They said the new room would work just fine. During the night, I was very warm and checked the temperature, and it was the same as the old room. I called the front desk, and they assured me they could change the temp centrally. After a sweaty night of poor sleep, I saw the temp didn’t change. After breakfast, I talked to the front desk again, and they said they would check. When I got back in the late afternoon, nothing had changed. I talked with the front desk again before dinner, and they said they’d send the engineer and if they couldn’t fit it they would upgrade and move me. I told them that I didn’t want to pack up and move again because I was tired from lack sleep and don’t want to move every night. I asked them to leave me a message as to whether it could be repaired. I got back from dinner, no change and no message. I just called and they said the engineer couldn’t figure out what’s wrong and apologized profusely. I told them that others in my group also said they couldn’t lower the temps. They offered a discount for my room which I accepted on behalf of the company which is a business expense. |I truly believe that they set the room temp to be lowest at 70-71 and that they know the temperature cannot be adjusted any lower. |This is so disappointing for the top hotel in Trondheim. |I doubt I’ll get a good night’s...
Read moreWe stayed at the Britannia for 2 nights, our rating breakdown is as follows:
Check In - 3 (There was a Doorman present, but no Bellman services were provided. The front desk offered luggage assistance, but the experience we’ve had at other 5 star hotels usually included a bellman handling our bags before we even walked through the hotel doors.)
Design - 5 (Beautiful spaces and well designed lobby and spa; I regret not visiting the other restaurants, but the breakfast room was elegant, grand, and comfortable.)
Location - 5 (Centrally located, close to shopping, food and tourist attractions.)
Spa - 4 (Wonderful amenity offered free of charge to hotel guests. We appreciated the variety of saunas, though wished the jacuzzi had been warmer. There’s no background music or spa noises, so conversations and movements are easily heard by all. A selection of coffee, tea, and still bottled water was available.)
Breakfast - 5 (This was fantastic, with both buffet and a small selection of menu offerings, we found the breakfast very fulfilling. A la Carte items were plated beautifully, and we enjoyed the espresso bar options. The food was displayed and labeled well, with a variety of options catering to all dietary needs and mindful of dietary restrictions. Food was fresh and of high quality.)
Comfort - 2 (This is where we were the most disappointed. Though the room was beautiful, it was overly furnished. We recognize we opted for the smaller Superior Room, but were disappointed by the amount of furniture in the room, limiting space for luggage. The bed, advertised as a Hastens, proved to be firm and worn to the point that we rolled to the middle. This bed was extremely uncomfortable and we did not sleep well. We were hopeful that the room, while small, would offer more comfort.)
Service - 4 (We were overall pleased with the friendly front desk service, as well as the professional staff serving breakfast.)

Read moreOne of the best 5 star hotels in the world and def. among the best we have stayed so far. I would give 10 stars if it’s allowed. Location is great. Steps away from restaurants and short walk to other attractions. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. They do whatever it takes to make you happy. We had a Junior suite which is comfortable and quiet located on the 3rd floor. Our room was elegantly designed with the control panels for lights, temperature and curtains. There is a TV that can be raised from the bed for evening TV watching if you wish. Bathroom was spacious and the shower water pressure was perfect. They also have a Bluetooth where you can connect your stereo / phone for the ceiling speakers in the bathroom. Breakfast was plenty and lots of vegetables, fruits, yogurts, and cheeses. Wish we could fit in more as they were so delicious and freshly prepared. Our driver, Henning was exceptional. He was such a gentleman who aims for the best quality service one can imagine. Henning is well into his 60s and working hard like he is a young man. Norwegian people are truly the happiest people on earth and Henning was one of them. He is just so content with everything in life and truly loves what he does which makes us happy too. The only improvements that I can suggest to the hotel are 1) please proving low profile pillows. Not used to the thick pilllow although it is supper comfortable but we need to have alternative type of pillows that fits everyone’s needes. 2) need to be able to adjust the room temperatures to have a cooler temperature for sleep. we woke up several times during the sleep as the room temperature was too warm and there was no way we can adjust it to feel more comfortable to sleep. That’s it other than that we had wonderful stay and when we come back to Trondheim again we will definitely stay here again. I highly recommend this hotel to you as...
