SELLANRAA Bok & Bar in Trondheim offers an atmosphere that is hard to beat. The lighting is perfectly curated, creating a warm and inviting space, while the background music sits at just the right volume—not too loud, not too quiet—making it an ideal spot for a relaxed visit. Unfortunately, while the ambiance excels, the seating situation holds it back. The tables are uncomfortably high relatively to the low seat height, making it difficult and uncomfortable to work from for any period longer than 15 minutes for anyone shorter than 1.95m. This is a shame because otherwise, this would be an excellent spot to settle in with a laptop or a book.
As for the food, my experience was mixed. The Norwegian herring on potato with caviar wasn’t particularly enjoyable, though it wasn’t outright bad either—it just didn’t quite hit the mark. However, the vanilla canelé was a standout, perfectly executed with a crisp caramelized shell and a soft, custardy interior.
Overall, SELLANRAA is a beautiful place to sit and enjoy a pastry, especially if you’re there for the ambiance rather than an extended work session. If they adjusted the table height, it would be a near-perfect café for both leisure and...
Read moreThis was not just the best meal we had in Trondheim, nor was it just the best meal we had in Norway, this experience reminded us of the joy an amazing meal can bring. Food prepared with such care and creativity that you don't know when again in your life you will be fortunate enough to taste it.
We've eaten at so many places from food stalls to Michelin restaurants and I can't remember the last time I felt so satisfied and surprised by a dish. Everything we ordered was so fresh, with each element of the dish working so well together. The beef required no knife and melted in your mouth. The herring (after eating so much herring in Norway) was somehow so delicious and unique in its flavor. The lamb dumplings in such a delicious broth. After the meal we enjoyed the fresh baked desserts. The basque cheesecake was perfect without being overly sweet. It was perfect.
When the meal was finished the joy turned to a bittersweet melancholy as we knew the only way to eat this food again would be to return to Trondheim. It is my wish to eat those dishes again soon. What a wonderful collection of people who create the food and warm atmosphere of...
Read moreChecked out both the cafe and the restaurant (same building, different places). Arriving late, very little was left and what was left was delicious! Both the blueberry and the rhubarb juice made in house are fresh and so, so good. The almond pastry with raspberry was shockingly soft (it was the end of the day) and so good it was worth getting another. The bread was lovely with brown cheese, and the service was excellent. I headed round the corner to try the restaurant, and was not disappointed. The porridge was beautifully plated, which is unusual for porridge. The food came quickly and the chef and his assistant gave helpful instruction on how to mix the various ingredients, making the meal both tasty and and fun. Chef Dediac went the extra mile to also recommend local attractions in the area to visit and made me feel most welcome. The ambiance in the restaurant was enough to keep me lingering longer than I normally would, and outdoor seating was also available for those who enjoyed the crisp weather. Highly recommend this place for a quick bite or...
