Although Old Town Hotel is far from perfect, I was overall satisfied with my stay and would return. First, the positives. Absolutely, the location!!!! The location of the hotel could not be better, within the old town, steps away from the fort and on the vibrant main square. The souk is a 2 minute walk away. Free parking is also a 2 minute walk and there is space for about 20 cars, so is not an issue. The staff is lovely, both at the reception and the breakfast people upstairs. The roof top terrace has a wonderful view and is a perfect place to enjoy breakfast. Although I was lucky enough to get a shady spot on each of the two mornings of my stay, additional umbrellas would be good (so long as they don't block the view!). Breakfast itself was very good and had some different selections on each day. I particularly enjoyed the mango, hummus and other Arabic mezze. The room itself was a good size and the bed comfortable. Now for the less good: the bathroom. I don't think it is unique to this hotel to have a tiny bathroom with a shower that wets everything within its aim, but once we figured that out and moved towels etc out of the bathroom we enjoyed the copious hot water. Also, although we stayed two nights our room was not cleaned (although water replenished when we asked). I don't know if this was an oversight or hotel policy, but by the time we arrived back at the hotel after a day's sightseeing we didn't bother to ask for a clean up. It was fine and we lived with it, but usually I expect the room to be tidied etc.automatically. But despite these glitches I was pleased with my stay and would stay at...
Read moreWe were allocated a large suite as a family of 3, and our 6 year old son got his own twin room which he really enjoyed. We were only there for one night, but appreciated the modern, well proportioned room including charging points near the beds. However, the only lamp in my son's room did not work (European plug, UK power socket) and we couldn't use the sockets above the mirror in the main room because the mirror came up too high to also put in a UK plug. We did not try the tv unit and used the bathroom for drying wet clothes, but it did seem if we had used the shower then the water would have gone everywhere as the floor was not slopped like a wet room. Breakfast the following morning was downstairs and was adequate - we ate in private "cabins" which was quite fun. There is a restaurant on the roof terrace but it does not belong to the hotel which caused congestion/confusion in the small entrance hall due to people waiting for their reservations in the restaurant in addition to people who were guests at the hotel wanting to check in/leave bags etc. As it is an old property, the lift can only fit in 3 people so access could be a challenge for less mobile guests. ||The location is perfect for exploring the Old Town with most of the sights a few minutes walk away. We had pizza at a restaurant a few doors down in...
Read morePrime location in Alaqar area just few minutes from Nizwa fort. You are surrounded by majestic old homes and streets with lights that came alive from one of Ala Aldine story book. You can imagine moving around in the flaying carpet. Every thing looks and feels dreamy and sweet. The hotel has optimized the space very well yet it lacks basic amenities. The TV not working, you have coffee but no milk no tea. The toilet is a disaster. The breakfast is from planet I don't care. It's not the quantity but quality that really matters. Beds are very comfy yet the carpet and the smell of condensation coming from some where I can't figure out. We liked the roof open restaurant but it took really a lot of time to get an order. We loved spectacular views of the old town and the morning light casted on these little homes with mountains and palm trees gardens in the back ground layer after layer. So please do try to train the staff and have some consistency in the menu of actual real food. Also do remind yourself that the money paid to stay in your hotel is actually money printed in the bank not monopoly money. Hope to comeback and witness...
