We stayed at Muru for a total of 5 days. Our first 3 days were a delight. We were given a nice room on the top floor with its own kitchen and living room. The bed was comfortable and the place was clean. I would have liked to have instant coffee as part of the selection of teas.
It’s only when we tried to organise an extra night after our excursion to Machu Picchu that things seemed a bit off. When we went to reception, we were getting overpriced than what was offered online. I would have been happy cutting out the middle man if the price was in line but the receptionist, Raúl was trying to convince us to go with him at $20 more - saying he would give us a “better room with a view”. We booked online and were demoted to a standard room on the third floor. The room was nice.
The following day, I went down in the morning and asked if we could stay an extra night. Same thing again. Over charging for the room - and was adamant that we couldn’t stay in the standard room. Trying to get us to go for the room with the nicer view… I explained the price on booking.com and asked nicely if it was possible to stay in the same room. Nope - “it was already booked”. We would be demoted yet again, to a smaller room. He wasn’t being helpful at all. We ended up having to check out of that room and waiting over an hour in the hall on our new room to be ready. While waiting he said it would be ready in 15 minutes. 50 minutes had passed and he cheekily asks if I would like to pay. I asked him once again when the room would be ready, he responds saying 2/3 minutes and laughs at me. It was extremely rude of him as he asks for another time if I was sure I didn’t want the room with the better view…
The kicker… the new room was identical to our previous room. Only one floor below. A really frustrating end to what could have been a...
Read moreRooms good, breakfast and restaurant both fine. Restaurant + breakfast staff all great. Wouldn’t trust them with bags left. Generally nice but let down by a staff member called Raul. We left a bag in the hotel as we were told this was a service they offered. On returning 4 days later one of the bags was nowhere to be found. We eventually found some of it in a large bag of unlabelled stuff whilst this staff member did nothing to help, didn’t apologise and told us to stop searching as it was gone. He then got angry and said we were accusing him of stealing. We saw the rest of the items in a back room behind the front desk. In the end we lost nothing but we were disappointed about the fact that our bag had been opened and searched, moved and Raul did nothing to help and tried to discourage us from searching for our things while offering no other way to get them back. I repeatedly asked him “is there another place they could be” and he said no despite the fact we eventually spotted them behind the desk. If we hadn’t spotted them I don’t think we would have got the items back at all. Overall some of the worst customer service I’ve ever had ara hotel, which is a shame as other staff...
Read moreThis was my first trip to Peru and I was so happy to stay in such a gorgeous hotel! I was on a hiking trip so I came and went from the hotel every 3-4 days. The staff was extremely organized in helping all 10+ members of our group and were courteous and very kind. They carried our bags to our room every time, had no problem keeping bags while we were away, and always helped us with questions that we had. ||||The hotel itself was nicely furnished with a modern décor. The rooms were a good size, very fresh and clean, and the bathrooms were well maintained. Some rooms even had a balcony that overlooked a small park across the street. Breakfast was served at the hotel every morning on the top floor. There was also a nice variety of choices and freshly squeezed juice every morning! ||||Muru was about a 10-minute walk from the main plaza which was far enough away from the noise of the city and close enough to walk there to shop and eat. There are a few stores close by if you needed a few things. ||||The only downside to this hotel is that there are several stray dogs that live in the surrounding areas and howl at different hours...
