Special thanks to Sonia-she was outstanding from the moment we arrived. Sonia accompanied us while we waited for our Machu Picchu entry, offered us tea or coffee several times, made a delicious hot tea, and explained everything about the Machu Picchu process. She was extremely helpful and made us feel very welcome.
The rooms at RockRivers Hotels are luxurious, with excellent water supply and very comfortable beds. We had a lovely room high up with a beautiful balcony-small, but perfect for two, with stools to sit and enjoy the view. We also received two complimentary water bottles in our room, which was a nice touch. The bathrooms have the typical open vents towards the hallway, as is common in Peru.
The location is fantastic-one of the best in Aguas Calientes! Even though the town is small, you are extra close to the bus to Machu Picchu, which made everything very convenient and quick for us. The hotel is also very close to the train tracks, so you may hear 1–2 trains passing at night, which can be loud, but this is probably the case everywhere in town.
Breakfast was okay: for announced vegans, there could be more variety-there were fruits and toast with jam, but vegan options were limited, while there were several animal products. Overall, a wonderful stay-just a bit more vegan breakfast variety would...
Read moreWhile we didn’t have high expectations of the hotel, we were disappointed in a few things given other really great reviews during our two night stay. First, we were initially given a room where the bathroom plumbing did not work (toilet didn’t flush and the sink did not drain at all) and the window in the bathroom was broken. The staff kindly moved us to a different room in which plumbing was functional at first, but soon the sink did not drain at all and the basin was full to the brim with standing water for our entire stay (even after cleaning staff came and refreshed the room). Wifi connection is not available from your room, only the lobby. No AC so it was quite warm. Rooms were not the cleanest, and when cleaning staff came in to refresh the room while we were out they left our door unlocked, and also left the balcony door wide open so our room was full of mosquitoes upon return. There was very also loud music being played from the restaurant below that lasted late in the night. Overall,...
Read moreOur stay at Rock Rivers Hotel in Aguas Calientes was a mixed experience. While the room itself was nicely decorated and well-appointed, there were a few drawbacks that affected our overall comfort.
Firstly, the bed was smaller than expected (full size), which may be a concern for taller or more accustomed to larger beds travelers. Additionally, the room's temperature was uncomfortably hot, making it difficult to sleep comfortably throughout the night.
The biggest issue, however, was the noise from passing trains, which disrupted our sleep multiple times during the night. This noise disturbance significantly impacted the quality of our stay and made it challenging to rest properly.
On a positive note, the staff at Rock Rivers Hotel were friendly and accommodating, doing their best to assist us during our stay.
In summary, while the room was aesthetically pleasing and the staff were nice, the small bed, excessive heat, and noise from passing trains detracted from the...
