Tao Dulce Salado — Restaurant in Machu Picchu

The lovelies little coffee shop and restaurant. Right along the train track so you get to eat and drink while the train goes by, which is very scenic. And it’s a bit off the main crowded street which is an absolute PLUS.

The coffee is delicious, made with care and attention, and they offer soya milk for anyone non-dairy. Their cookies are very tasty and served warm with your coffe.

The owners are SO LOVELY and KIND. They take time to talk to you, ask where you’re from, and make you feel welcome.

Didn’t get a chance to have a main meal here but I hope to come back and will definitely have lunch or dinner.

La nostra sosta da Tao Dulce Salado ad Aguas Calientes è stata una piacevole pausa tra un’escursione e l’altra, in un locale semplice ma curato, che unisce sapori familiari a un’atmosfera rilassata. Situato in una zona facilmente raggiungibile a piedi, il locale si presenta accogliente, con qualche tavolino all’aperto per chi vuole godersi il passaggio e un interno ordinato, decorato con tocchi caldi e informali.

Abbiamo scelto di provare due empanadas di pollo, che si sono rivelate una vera sorpresa. La pasta, dorata e fragrante, era cotta alla perfezione: croccante all’esterno e morbida all’interno. Il ripieno, generoso, aveva un sapore ricco e ben bilanciato, con il pollo tenero e condito con un mix di spezie che ricordava la cucina casalinga sudamericana. La quantità di ripieno rispetto alla pasta era ideale, evitando sia l’effetto “troppo secco” sia quello “troppo umido”.

Ad accompagnare le empanadas, abbiamo preso un caffè per bruschetta. Nonostante il nome possa trarre in inganno, si tratta di un caffè dal gusto deciso, perfetto per chi ama un aroma intenso e persistente. Servito caldo e ben estratto, ha completato perfettamente la nostra breve merenda, bilanciando la parte salata delle empanadas con una nota amara e avvolgente.

Il servizio è stato rapido e cordiale: il personale si è dimostrato gentile e disponibile, pronto a rispondere a domande e a fornire consigli senza mai risultare invadente.

In conclusione, Tao Dulce Salado è il posto giusto per una sosta veloce ma soddisfacente ad Aguas Calientes, ideale per chi cerca uno spuntino gustoso prima o dopo la visita a Machu Picchu. This restaurant is away from all the business in the center of Aguas Calientes, which is a nice break from all the noise and lights.

I had the BBQ burger which was very tasty. The patty was good, but maybe a tiny little bit too dry. The bun was amazing, the salad and the tomato were fresh.
