This was a stop for a trip to Lake Titicaca. We arrived by bus from Arequipa on the evening. Check-in was fine and our rooms were good, but the service by the staff was not. We may have been staying during off season but we seamed to be the only two rooms filled as the doors to the others were open and empty. The buffet breakfast was not. A staff member went out to shop for our bread eggs etc then prepared it on the fly. We were up by 6am for our boat trip beginning by 7am and did not have much time to spare. We stayed two nights and this was the same each morning. The hotel was clean but the manager was horrible. We are asked to pay and shop for a new toilet seat she said we broke??? I have never had this happen in a hotel and we have been to many all over the world. I think we used the lobby restrooms after breakfast and she considered these her's personally! We told her we did not shop for her hotel supplies on our vacation and checked out glad to leave. We really did not like Puno at all, the people seemed to be very pushy selling more than in the other tourist type cities. I would stay at one of the two hotels on the lake in the future. The tour boats stop for passengers in the morning and leave you either in town or back at the lake hotel...
Read moreI arrived at this hotel having an email confirmation of my reservation that I had received two months prior. However, when I got there, it was locked and dark. I was finally let in by this young guy who was as confused as me, and who spoke no English (my Spanish is poor). After a lot of confusion, gestures back and forth, showing him the email, and a phone call on his part, I realized that the hotel was closed because the manager or owner was away! After making his phone call, during which I could tell he was trying to convince the other person that yes, I had a confirmed reservation, he went to put me in a room. In the dark empty hotel with no guests and no staff. As a solo female traveler, this was weird and an overall bad idea. Fortunately it was not peak season so another hotel down the street had availability. I was extremely put off by the unprofessionalism of the person in charge of reservations and/or the manager. If you book this place, double, triple and quadruple check your...
Read moreWe found the hotel from a guide book recommendation. It looks as if it was a lovely 3 star hotel once upon a time, but it hasn't been that for a while. The room was sort of clean, at least the sheets but by the looks of the drapes, they weren't washed for 10 years. The fake flowers in the room were brown from the dust. There was hot water, but the tap for cold one didn't work, so the shower was scolding hot. Breakfast consisted of just jam and butter, and we were asked if we wanted scrambled eggs. 120 soles is cheap for a 3 star hotel, but it really deserves maybe just one. The manager was really nice, but we were glad we stayed only...
