I don’t usually stay in hotels like Fuente Hotel de Cebu. But this time everything went sideways: I ended up in a place I hadn’t planned for, and stayed in hotels I wouldn’t normally choose. Turned out to be a fun experience.||||In short: it’s a budget hotel, and I probably wouldn’t stay here long term. But why 55 then?||||Well, for one, I stayed here twice. The first time, I was just looking for a place on the same day, walked in, asked to see a room — no problem, they showed me. Nothing fancy, but honest. I booked it and stayed.||||The room is simple, no frills. The aircon is loud — very loud. But honestly, that seems to be the Filipino standard. I didn’t find a quiet one anywhere, even in big chains.||||Now to the good parts. They gave me a quiet room, just as I asked. At check-in I got two coffee vouchers — small touch, but appreciated. Breakfast was good: tasty food, cozy vibe, and staff so genuinely friendly that it’s contagious. On my last day I checked out, stayed in their cafe till evening, drowned in coffee, and even managed to draft a note and a song. Super productive day.||||If I judged by strict logic, it would be a 3 out of 5. But for the atmosphere, value for money, food, and kindness of the people — it’s a solid 5 out of 5. Fuente isn’t about luxury, it’s about heart.||||And a bonus memory: for the first time ever, I went to the airport across the city in the rain on a motorbike with my luggage. Normally I’d take a car, but this time I wanted a bit of adventure. Still makes me smile.||||Bottom line: I remember Fuente Hotel de Cebu warmly, and I’d...
Read moreI've been staying here off and on since 2008. This is the best hotel in the Fuente Circle area by far--i have stayed in Shamrock and Verbena which don't hold a candle to Fuente P.H. They have a nice restaurant on the top floor that they remodeled some time between my 2012 visit and 2018. It's a nice improvement.||||The location is great if you want to see night life down on Mango Ave. without getting hassled by the creeps hanging out around the circle. I got hassled and pick-pocketed by street urchins back in 2010 when a taxi couldn't find Fuente P.H. and dropped me off at the the circle at 10pm. Back then it was a very sketchy place after 9:30pm As of 2018, the circle is not as bad as pre-Duterte, but you will still get hustled by the viagra salesmen and it still has a shady feel to it.||||The back street that Fuente P.H. is on has decent folks selling street food. No hassle, no huxsters, no street urchins. Also convenient is the in-house travel agency that will extend your 21 day visa if necessary. ||||Fuente P.H. is just the smart...
Read moreOver the course of 8 years, I've stayed at several hotels in this general area (Fuente Circle, Mango Square) to shop at Ayala and generally visit a bigger central Visayas city, but all of the more mahal hotels just don't do it, at least consistently. So I decided to try a less expensive place, and this hotel does it quite well.||Rooms tend to be small, but comfortable. After all, all one is looking for is a clean room with aircon and a decent bed, and then off and running the next day.||This hotel does what it is designed to do.||My wife and I have stayed here quite comfortably, and although the 'free' breakfast is part of the deal, it's not very good at all. But the bonus is that it looks out over the city somewhat, and that is a bonus around 7 pm. Try to stay away from the smokers allowed up there.||Oh yes, there are a couple good 'Thai-styled' relaxation massage places around the corner leading into this pension. Good before bed.||Come here for a decent moderately-priced stay, and sleep...
