Pros: The location!!!!! It's really right on the beach/water, super convinient for snorkelling/swimming. Probably the only hostel right on the beach at this area. The common area is right by the water so you can enjoy gorgeous sunsets there. It's around 3-5mins walk from the end of the main road so it's quiet at night.
The female dorm is clean and comfy in general, there are 2 charging ports per bed. The attached bathroom has some black mould on the ceiling but you can just try to ignore that. The blankets are really thin though, so do ask to adjust the aircon temp in the room if it gets too cold.
There is free flow water, coffee and tea, and you can use their kitchen appliances as well like the fridge and pots.
There is also some drying racks on the 2nd floor so you can dry your swimsuits and towels conviniently.
Cons: When I arrived, the reception told me they had given my bunk in the 4B female dorm away because a customer had mistakenly booked 1 bunk for a family of 4 people when she meant to book 1 room. She told me that either I can take up the only remaining bunk in the 8B mixed dorm, or move to their sister hostel (Hangover Hostel). I was really angry, how did another person's booking mistake result in me having to move?! They shouldn't have even give my bunk away in the first place, they should have just separated the 4 people group. I didn't want to move hostels as the Hangover Hostel's location isn't as good as Moana and it was on the main street (very noisy), and I purposely booked a female dorm because I'm not comfortable with mixed dorms. I asked if they could move one of the people in the 4B dorm and she said no. In the end, I agreed to stay in the 8B dorm given that they move to the female dorm once the current guests move out, which she said was 2 nights. She only also gave me 100php discount in addition to the price difference for my inconvinience. Later on the trip, I got to move after only 1 night as the family moved out early and the recep offered free snorkel and fins rental to me to make up for the mistake as well. I'm glad to see their service recovery but the mistake shouldn't even have happened in the first place and made a very unpleasant start for my trip.
The hostel's activities/day trips booking prices are also slightly more expensive than the average, so you may walk around the main street to compare...
Read moreOnly positive is the location is right by the sea so you can jump straight in to snorkle
staff let a couple share a bed, so there were 9 of us in the 8 bed dorm and we had to hear the couple having sex at 2am
there is only a single ensuite toilet per dorm, which gets covered in sand immediately and means you're hearing everyone use the toilet at all hours
zero security. Barely anyone on reception to stop people just walking in and none of the rooms have a door lock, and the lockers are falling apart
advertised as a kitchen but really it's just a hot water dispenser and some plates. We wanted to cook some food but the staff didn't like us using a frying pan and the hob. They sell cooked food and therefore don't seem to like guests wanting to cook themselves
they don't do the free Saturday evening dinners for guests anymore
it felt more like a guest house as the staff are a big family with kids living in one of the rooms. They use the common seating area and also the snorkeling equipment so there's less for the guests to use
10pm noise curfew isn't enforced so it gets really loud every evening. Avoid coming on a weekend as the town...
