Hue Hotels Puerto Princesa - Comfortable Stay with Some Challenges
We recently stayed at Hue Hotels in Puerto Princesa, and overall, it was a comfortable experience, though there were a few challenges that slightly affected our stay.
Pros: • Comfortable Room & Amenities: The room itself was well-appointed, offering a comfortable bed that made it easy to get a good night’s sleep. The power shower was a great feature, providing a refreshing and invigorating experience. We also appreciated the big TV, which was perfect for relaxing after a day of sightseeing. • Convenient Location: One of the standout features of Hue Hotels is its location. It’s conveniently situated next to a large shopping mall, which made it easy for me to quickly grab any supplies or medication for my partner when he wasn’t feeling well. This proximity to the mall was definitely a plus. • Fast Lifts: A small but notable detail—the hotel’s lifts are super fast, which made coming and going from our room quick and efficient. • Nice Pool & Relaxing Vibes: The pool area is pleasant, with a few loungers available for guests to enjoy. While there wasn’t a huge amount of space, the overall vibe was relaxing. The music played upstairs added to the chill atmosphere, and the staff by the pool were friendly and accommodating.
Cons: • Unpleasant View: While the room was comfortable, the view from the window was less than ideal. It looked out over what appeared to be a swampy area, which wasn’t the most pleasant sight. However, this didn’t detract too much from the comfort of the room itself. We did avoid opening the windows, as it would have invited mosquitoes inside. • Limited Breakfast: Unfortunately, the breakfast offering was quite limited and not particularly appetising. The selection was basic, and the quality didn’t meet the standards we expected from a hotel of this caliber. This was definitely a letdown compared to other aspects of the stay. • Food Poisoning Incident: A major issue during our stay was my partner getting food poisoning after eating dinner at the hotel restaurant. While the staff were helpful and made sure he was okay, there was no offer of a refund or compensation for the food or the day he spent sick in bed. The hotel advised that we’d need to go to a hospital to get the illness checked, which was not a feasible option for us, especially with only two nights at the hotel. This situation certainly dampened our experience. • Service Lacked Personal Touch: While the staff at the pool were nice, I didn’t find any other members of the team to stand out in terms of exceptional service. The staff were polite and efficient, but there wasn’t the personal touch or extra effort that would have made us feel more welcomed and valued. • Limited Pool Space: The pool area was small, with not many loungers available. While it was nice to have a place to relax, the limited space might be an issue during busy times when the hotel is more crowded.
Overall Experience: Hue Hotels offers a comfortable and well-located stay with a few challenges to consider. While the room was comfortable and the amenities such as the fast lifts, pool, and convenient location were all positives, the issues with food quality, the food poisoning incident, and the limited breakfast selection did affect our experience. The lack of exceptional service and the swampy view were also drawbacks, though they didn’t take away too much from the overall comfort of the room. If you’re looking for a convenient, affordable option in Puerto Princesa and can overlook these downsides, Hue Hotels might be worth considering. However, I would recommend being cautious when it comes to...
Read moreThe worst hotel and service I've gotten in the Philippines so far. The rooms are extremely dirty and dilapidated (just look at the pictures), there's mold, hair, and general uncleanliness. The beds are super uncomfortable, the design of the room is nonsensical with the sinks outside and the partially see-through doors to BOTH the toilet and the shower. The door is missing a latch so security is not good. Because the doors are so old and cheap, the sound carries from every corner of the floor into your room. The unlock sound on the doors is so sound that it felt it's in our room. The two nights we were there, we did not get a lick of sleep because there were screaming groups of people at all hours of the night and morning at the hotel. The last night we were woken up at 11:30 PM, midnight, 1 AM, 1:20, 2, 3:00, 3:45 and 4:15 before we had to get up for a flight at 5. This was next-level awful when you think you're paying for comfort. The service is as bad as the rooms. We came here with every intention of spending a day at the spa and have 4 meals in the hotel restaurant but after our first interaction with the young man at the front office and especially the terrible Romeo at the pool bar/restaurant, we decided to go elsewhere. In the first minute of arriving, we asked the reception if they can break us a bill of 1000 pesos because our cab fare was 500 and the driver didn't have change. The young man at reception stared at us blankly and said they don't have change. It's a hotel lobby in a country that famously uses cash before anything else! And instead of offering a different solution, he just went about his business. I said that there is a restaurant on premise, so maybe they have it, and the staff member said frustratingly that "the restaurant is there" and waved towards a door while there were ZERO other people waiting. Off the bat, pretty bad first impression. We went up to the top floor to see the pool, gym, and the menu of the in-house restaurant. The gym has 3 items in it (and NO treadmill) and is completely useless. We figured we can do a mat workout and asked for 2 mats. The person who was there told us to check in a bunch of off-to-the-side service wardrobes. We did and there was nothing there. We asked if there is anywhere else he can check for mats and instead of responding, he just walked away. At first, I thought he was going to check another place, but after he came back 10 minutes later and pretended he never spoke to us, I was just baffled. While we were waiting, we looked at the restaurant menu since we were planning to get dinner there. I noted, TO MY HUSBAND, that there are almost no vegetarian options since I don't eat meat. Romeo, the person behind the bar, grabbed the menu from me and aggressively pointed to the two dishes under the VEGETABLES section of the menu. I told him that the main ingredient listed in one of these was pork. He yelled that they have salads, I pointed out that all salads had either meat or seafood in them. Then, in a very aggravated tone, he said "you can just have the meat removed!" This is NOT a vegetarian option, dude. He was rude to an extent that I have not experienced before. I have no idea how he has a job and, in reading other reviews mentioning the rudeness of bar/restaurant staff, I'm 100% positive, they are about him. DO NOT STAY HERE OR SPEND ANY MONEY AT THIS...

Value for money. At the time of this review, we spent twice the average for accommodations, which is Php 28 per night per room in Puerto Princesa. Paying more is not an issue for our family as long as a hotel includes perks. However, the price we paid only included breakfast for one of the four rooms we booked, which we found strange.
The Php 1000 cost for a comfortable private van transfer from the airport to the hotel for five in our party (the other two arrived later at another cost) was worth it.
Location. Pick-up at the airport, about a fifteen-minute drive in medium traffic to the hotel, went smoothly and efficiently, thanks to the staff who greeted us, especially our private van driver, Joshua.
(Joshua, our driver who occasionally worked the front desk, consistently provided the best service. He was personable, conversational, efficient, and reliable.)
The hotel is right off the main road, which made it easy for our Honda Bay Tour guide to pick us up the first morning and later drop us off at the spa across the street for massages for our party, including one child, eight years old.
Local Experience (neighborhood). Robinsons Palawan Shopping Mall was next door, which pleased members of our party because it was a fun place for them to explore and buy essentials, e.g., water and snacks.
On the second night, the family hopped on to tricycles to easily explore nearby Puerto Princesa proper in search of dinner and the perfect halo-halo.
Accommodations | Property Details. The nicely designed, kitschy 1960s-trendy modern open-air lobby with plenty of seating is Instagramable. My grandson, however, was disappointed that the giant chess set featured in the hotel’s promotional material was no longer available. A nice touch: Reception greets patrons with a drink.
As for the rooms, they were small for three in our party who were five ft. eleven in. or taller. Check-in was slower when compared to other accommodations in the same class, and a not-ready-for-customer-service trainee mistakenly charged us twice for a fourth room for which we had already paid. Management resolved the error quickly.
The elevators were small but functional, while the simple, small rooms cramped the taller ones in our group, as mentioned above. The small pool [on the roof?] appeared clean and clear, but the plexiglass surrounding it obstructed the view because it either needed to be cleaned or replaced. There is a restaurant onsite that makes delicious mango and banana shakes; we did...
