Title: A soulless, money-driven hostel â avoid if you want a real travelerâs experience
My stay at 100% Cafe Moto was deeply disappointing. This place operates with a factory-like mentality, where the main goal is to squeeze as much money as possible out of guests.
No outside food or drinks allowed. Upon arrival, youâre greeted with large signs strictly forbidding anything not bought from their restaurant.
Constant pressure to eat at their overpriced restaurant. Youâre repeatedly asked at breakfast, lunch, and dinner if youâve already eatenâlike a relentless sales pitch. The food itself is mediocre and expensive.
No atmosphere, no soul. Thereâs absolutely no warmth or community feel. Even the owner, who was present throughout my three-day stay, didnât bother to greet me once.
Terrible sleeping conditions. The dorm is right next to the kitchen, meaning youâll hear clattering pots and pans until late at night. The entire hostel is filled with the smell of the restaurantâs cookingâunbearable if youâre not eating there.
Isolated and uninspiring location. Itâs stuck behind a gas station, in the middle of nowhere, with nothing around to explore.
This place is purely business, no hospitality. If youâre looking for a real backpacker experience,...
Read moreOnly in town for 30 hours, I had 3 out of 4 meals at this place! (Hotel had free breakfast included) I had the big burger (minus bbq sauce âcause I hate that sweet stuff on a burger) and it was pretty good and inspired my confidence to come back later for other tempting items I had seen on the menu. Lemongrass chicken Banh Mi was pretty good, but more cilantro, fresh sliced jalapeños instead of pickled, and a lighter-weight baguette would put it in âepicâ territory. Pizza Romana was very good. Quality ingredients. Zesty, as salty as Iâd expect for anchovies and capers⊠crust quite good. (Maybe dust the peel with coarse cornmeal instead of flour to eliminate the dusty texture on the tongue) These are just constructive criticisms from a restaurateur and lifelong student of global cuisines. I will definitely come back any time I am in Puerto Princesa! These guys clearly care about their customers and product. In such a hard industry, itâs nice to see...
Read moreI havenât been to Puerto Princesa in about 2 years and it was a pleasant surprise to find out that not only 100% Cafe Moto is still around but also has a international hostel in place. The menu has somewhat changed since my last visit but its good to know that they still offer sumptuous pizzas and those famous strawberry shakes. Even Tony that friendly dog was still around! I was a bit hesitant to try out the rooms given my track record with hostels especially as I was traveling with my wife and young daughter. To my surprise there was an option to get a private room with a toilet and bath! In addition, the beds were clean and comes with their own electric outlets and night lights. All in all, we had a positive experience and do intend to stay here again on our next...
