We are coming out of Ukraine, escaping bombs and Russian Army. We are 3 people and 3 dogs - they advised us that the room was big. It was not. We were not upset, and planned to stay 1 night and asked for them to allow us 'out' of the non-refundable 4 remaining days. And there were MANY Ukrainian's standing in the lobby wanting a room so they did not have to sleep in the lobby. The General Manager (think that was his title - was on phone from Berlin), talked to me over the phone and with Hotels.com listening in on my phone and talking to him - and he said NO. I would lose the entire amount 'because that is policy'. I advised that MANY hotels are giving discounts and free rooms to help the Ukrainian's citizens as they are fleeing their homes and jobs to stay alive - but we did not want any discounts. Just let us 'free' of the remaining 4 days, so these people in the lobby could have the room. He again said NO. And even said if I leave they will keep the money paid for all nights and will rent the room to someone else also. I asked did he realize he was creating a very bad image for the hotel. Said he did not care. He had no desire to change 'hotel policy' of no refunds to help Ukrainians or anyone else. I asked how would he feel if he was fleeing a war and went through what we were - spending more than $200 every single day just to live without a home and traveling with dogs so they are safe. He said - he does not have that problem and did not care. Wow.. so we called Hotels.com (I am a Gold Member) and Hotels.com 'gave me a full refund on all 5 days and we left. This hotel does not deserve anyone's respect. And you should ALWAYS use Hotels.com. 24 years of travel to 103 countries - they are AMAZING !!! Thank you Hotels.com. a&o Warsaw ? :-) politely - go screw yourself for having no compassion or consideration, when you have a line of people in the lobby that wanted and needed the room, but you refused to consider the situation (aka, no loss to you with people wanting the room). Maybe you need a new General Manager in Berlin ? Bad business image. I am posting this review in 11 places, as I also write for several travel magazines. Great decision a&o Warsaw Poland (Berlin General Manager) - wrong person to maybe act this way to. (oh, and the front desk guy said he has dealt with you before also and you were really bad to customers on a regular basis. Maybe some professional customer service...
Read morea&o Hostels Warsaw offers budget accommodation in the heart of the city, catering primarily to travelers seeking affordable lodging without sacrificing location. However, my recent stay left much to be desired, warranting a rating of 3 out of 5 stars.
Upon arrival, the check-in process was efficient, and the staff was courteous, providing a warm welcome. The rooms, while basic, were clean and adequately furnished, providing a comfortable environment for a night's rest. However, the lack of amenities such as toiletries and in-room entertainment options was notable.
One of the highlights of any accommodation experience is often the breakfast, yet the offering at a&o Hostels Warsaw was disappointing. The selection was limited, with few options available, and the quality of the food was subpar. For travelers looking to start their day with a satisfying meal, this aspect of the hostel falls short of expectations.
On the positive side, the hostel's central location makes it convenient for exploring Warsaw's attractions, with many landmarks and public transportation options within walking distance. Additionally, the affordability of the accommodation may appeal to budget-conscious travelers seeking a place to stay in a prime location.
In conclusion, a&o Hostels Warsaw provides a passable option for those seeking budget accommodation in a central location. However, improvements in the breakfast offering and overall amenities would greatly enhance the guest experience. While the rooms themselves were satisfactory, the mediocre breakfast experience ultimately detracts from the overall appeal...
Read moreVery bad hostel, stay away. The bed they assigned to me was already occupied by someone else, and the reception staff were unhelpful.
When I arrived to check in, the staff didnt care and just pointed me to a machine to do it myself. Fine, no problem. But after checking in and going to the room, I found that the bed given to me by the machine was already taken by another guest at 4 pm in the afternoon.
When I told the reception, they suggested I just take the other person’s bed instead. That’s completely unacceptable. I dont know this person, I dont know what they’ve done in that bed, and it’s absolutely unhygienic. I asked for a cancellation and refund, but they said it wasnt possible and that I couldnt cancel “without a reason” What more reason do they expect?
Then I asked for a room change and politely requested a quieter room with fewer people. Instead, they deliberately gave me a room where all the beds were full. When I questioned this, they told me, “even if we give you a bed in an empty room, it will be full by the end of the day anyway” If that’s the case, why not allow my cancellation and refund? They’ll fill the bed regardless.
Finally, their attitude was unprofessional and dismissive, saying things like “these things can happen in everytime, it’s not our responsibility who sleeps where" Completely unprofessional and careless. Should I really be expected to just go and sleep in someone else’s...
