Josefa d' Óbidos Hotel — Hotel in Óbidos

Given this hotel is ranked 4 out of 17 among Obidos hotels at the time of writing, I might have been forgiven for expecting a little more. What we got for our $130 was an astonishingly uncomfortable bed with tiny, squishy pillows, a shower with an improperly attached door (and a resulting wet mess all over the tiny bathroom’s floor), sewage smell from the same bathroom, an awkwardly located sink that requires even modestly-sized guests to maneuver rather intricately to perch on the adjacent porcelain throne so as not to impale themselves on its sharp corner, an air conditioning unit as old as the hotel itself and a huge wall containing a relatively tiny window behind a wooden door. Maybe it was just our luck and other double rooms are better, but something tells me this is all just part of the “charm”. ||The location just outside the city wall and free parking if you’re there early enough and the hotel isn’t totally full - there are only eight spots - are just about the only things earning this review...

On 8 January 2025 the hotel cancelled my booking for early February because the hotel would be closed for lift repairs. A refund of my pre-payment was promised. ||||I chased the refund and was told that reimbursements would not start being paid until the hotel re-opened on 13 February 2025, so more than five weeks after the date of cancellation.||||I complained about the delay and eventually received my refund on 6 February, still almost a month after the cancellation date.||||While the specific circumstances are unlikely to reoccur, travellers will wish to consider what this delay tells them about the hotel's...

We enjoyed our stay at Josefa D'Obidos. The hotel was very conveniently located just outside of the walls, which suited us well to get dropped off there without our driver having to navigate inside the walls. The staff were also extremely accomodating, helping us to have breakfast early because of our early departure time. We really appreciate the service we found here.||The hotel would benefit from a renevation soon; our rooms were clean and servicable, just a little in need of a refresh. Also, when renevating, I hope that they will consider ways to better reduce hallway sounds...
