18/09/2023 . Coming from Bretagne in France for a large Road Trip in Portugal and our 8th stop was for Òbidos ( So beautiful historical place but also a mass tourism one and too many of some French compatriots noisy, pedantic commenting a lot but buying little) . We have à dîner my wife and i to this restaurant chosen by default because the others were closed or complete... Sorry to say that given our previous experiences and being rather gourmet without boasting , it was a failure in terms of meal and welcome. The manager (?) in a hurry for no reason, absent smile etc. Thanks to the waiter very friendly, speaking good English and forcing himself to speak French to please. The atmosphere of the room below (patio style) was good for the setting but spoiled by the hubbub of a certain clientele. The main dishes chosen occured to be a disaster. Brás cod in large pieces plus scrambled egg and potatoes sticks layed on top (Sticks of supermarket ) which were soaked. Grilled Sardines (not on the grill) too big and fatty with potatoes 🥔 and scattered pieces of peppers worthy of the supermarket! So disappointed ! Of course we don't finished such dishes ! This kind of restaurant is more of a tourist trap and must surely put the local Portuguese to shame. Whether every day they offer this type of sloppy cuisine, those who declares as satisfied with 4 or 5 stars must have taste buds for fast food. Fortunately the majority of restaurants that we frequented for more than a month in Portugal got our (and their) 4 to 5 stars Real Portuguese cuisine...
Read moreCertainly! Here's the updated review with an ironic twist:
I had an extremely disappointing experience at this restaurant yesterday. The food was mediocre at best, with frozen bread and desserts that were served still partially frozen. The meat was overcooked and of very poor quality. To make matters worse, they messed up all of our orders. Despite kindly emphasizing three times that I cannot eat garlic and onions, they still put them in everything, rendering my meal inedible.
Even though they acknowledged their mistake and apologized, they still charged me the full €25 for the dish I couldn't eat. The only item they removed from the bill was one of the frozen desserts. The prices here are higher than average, but the quality of the food is something I wouldn't recommend to my worst enemy.
On a brighter note, the final vanilla candy was much appreciated—it did a decent job of masking the awful taste left...
Read moreWe go for a light dinner. The waiter was kind and polite. Explained us about the convert that we would only be charged for what we consumed. We asked for a soup for entrance. It was lukewarm, but the taste was impressive. We dipped some bread in it. The bread, by the way, was warm. I know they weren’t, but it seems they were recently baked. Main course was shrimp omelette. When the order arrived, I wasn’t expecting so much food. There were fries[chips] on the side, rustic, hot, tasty. There was also a bowl of salad we weren’t expecting but we realized it was part of the “simple” shrimp omelette. Since it was a great load of food we just could finish the omelette, leaving half the fries on the plate and not even touching the salad, unfortunately. It was a good experience and the house seems to have a good variety of wines. We asked for a...
